First assessment drive tomorrow!

Hey y’all,
this is my first post on here, but I’ve been reading for a little while.
Anyway, I have an assessment drive with Flair training in Chelmsford tomorrow with a view to doing my Class 2 (and maybe Class 1) with them soon.
I drive 3.5 flatbed Isuzus at work, but does anyone have any tips for my first drive in something larger?
Cheers

Drive slower !

You’ll be fine once you’ve got your head around the gearbox (8 speed slapover). Say hi to Stuart for me.

Pete

You’ll be fine, Flairs are well reviewed on here, so you’re in safe hands!

To be fair, I’m a fairly steady driver anyway: I tend to keep a steady pace and look ahead so as not to slow down rather than drive fast. I am looking forward to it, but still a little nervous, no not nervous… excited maybe?

I thought I was the same till half way through day one !!
How wrong I was lol

Good luck, just use common sense mate and as long as you have the mindset ‘I can do this’ it’ll go ok. I’ve driven the 3.5 Isuzu and they aren’t much bigger than a car, the ones I’ve driven had a fierce clutch ( a bit like on or off with no real give) and the difference in size will be an eye opener but you’ll get used to that.

Slow down in plenty of time at roundabouts…and plenty means PLENTY. There’s no rush, you’ll need that time to prepare, judge the traffic, find the appropriate gear, judge the traffic some more, find a different gear because something changed etc. If you judge it right you’ll be able to gently carry your momentum through the junction without stopping. Big trucks like momentum.

Not too much to think about then!
