Well hopefully anyway despite some sound advice on here earlier about parking at Cartgate, I decided to carry on for a bit longer as I had a nearly an hour left driving time and wanted to get a bit closer to Swindon I ended up parking on the A303 in a lay-by which I though because it was set back from the road a bit that it’d be fine…well it isn’t! Traffic going past noisy as hell and when a lorry flies by rocking the cab all over (not as bad as those lay-bys close the the main carriageway though) it’s probably my tenth night out since I’ve been doing the job and I’ve always fell lucky and managed to find some decent off road rest areas or quiet industrial estates but tonight looks like I’m in for a rough nights sleep ffs. I suppose sometimes it can’t be helped if you’re pushed for time etc and maybe I’ll get used to it eventually I’m just hoping it’s not too busy with traffic through the night
it’s all a learning curve for me I’ll plan a bit better next time haha
I’ll think of you while I sleep in this nice quiet industrial estate in Leicester [emoji42][emoji42][emoji42]

Now you see why we say it’s better to park up an hour shy and get up a little earlier had having a good sleep than to push on close to the door and have a Zb sleep [emoji6]

Yes and I’ll not make the same mistake again if I can help it, although I do see lorries all the time parked up in lay-bys close to the main road all the time I don’t know how they manage to get sleep with traffic flying by and rocking the cab all night.

Well if you look at the amount of empty pop tins, and bottles of dinner, in laybys, your answer is alcohol

Just a little advice for you, hopefully your am artic driver or this won’t work. If you find yourself in a layby over night, park your unit at slight angle to the left so as the unit isn’t straight with the trailer. Wind your legs down for stability and then lower the unit suspension just a little bit to take the weight slightly off your plate and that should give you a better night with less rocking and rolling.

Well in that case then, my advice would be NOT TO PARK IN LAYBYS. [emoji16]

Leave the engine running ? I rarely sleep without mine on , during the summer for air con then winter time it’s a must or she won’t start in the morning . Added benefit is hearing just your own motor , no reefers , trains , other trucks , or passing traffic . Bliss
