I got rid of the blue stripe and shop but also lost the smiley and sad faces, sometimes necessary to explain humour to dumb and dumber when speaking tongue in cheek :laughing:

Install Rick752ā€™s Easy List and also copy paste these filters one at a time into Adblock, ā€œAdblock Plus/Options/Filters/Add Filterā€.

Seems to work for me :smiley:

Can you explain all this again please, due to some gremlins I have lost my adblocker but these links do not seem to work with the new one or with the updated firefox.

I just want smileys and the ability to post, not to buy a lorry, pay for cpc training or buy a mug. Fanks

I donā€™t think you need to add custom filters any-more :smiley:

  1. Install Adblock Plus 2.0.3 if you havenā€™t already.

  2. Then install EasyList and all should now work fine without adds or the blue sidebar.

  3. This is the link for Element Hiding Helper for Adblocker Plus if you want to install it, though Iā€™ve just tried disabling it and it made no difference to this site so unless you want to hide elements on other sites you wonā€™t need it.

Iā€™m reasonably sure that installing Adblocker Plus and Easylist will get rid of all adds ecā€™t but if it doesnā€™t let us know, Iā€™ve still got a couple of custom filters in Adblock Plus but I canā€™t see any difference when I turn them off so I think theyā€™re now redundant.

If you have Adblocker and Easylist already installed try disabling any custom filters in Adblocker (adblocker/Filter Preferences)

Iā€™m using Firefox 10.0.2 and this seems to be working for me

Ok guys, just a quick question.

Iā€™ve finally had enough of internet explorer and downloaded firefox. Iā€™ve got it set as default browser and there is a huge improvement in speed just on this site, however there is 1 little problem

When I look at a post and then go back to the index (Go back one page) the thread is still marked as unread unless I do refresh.

Is this a fault with firefox that I have to live with or is there something I can do to solve this

You are asking the browser to go back and look at the page as it was when you last looked, therefore, the page would be marked as unread. Refreshing the page is like navigating to it afresh and your cookies will tell that page that you have visited it before.

To simplify, using the back button gets the page from your computer (history/memory), refreshing it gets the page from their website again.

On the subject of Firefox, I have had it for years now but am wanting to change. Google Chrome uses far less resources but is equally proficient. The only thing stopping me is that I have a Firefox Add-On that is an instant spell-checker whenever/wherever you are entering text. Until I find the same for Chrome Iā€™m hanging on with Firefox. :frowning:

As marcustandy has said the page will remain the same until refreshed however there are things you can do if you wish, firstly when you click on a link use the centre mouse button and the link should open in a new tab, personally I find this far better than using the back button.

If refreshing the index page is a nuisance then install Tab Mix Plus.
As far as Iā€™m concerned this is one of the must have Firefox add-ons, it gives almost complete control over tab behaviour and amongst other things it will allow you to have a tab automatically refresh at a time interval set by you.
I donā€™t use that feature of Tab Mix Plus much but it is often handy for a busy thread that youā€™re following and it would solve the problem of having to refresh the page manually, bear in mind of cause that every time the page is refreshed itā€™s using up your bandwidth which could be a problem on a slow connection.

Now that youā€™ve decided to use a decent browser hereā€™s some other add-ons that may enhance your Firefox experience.

IE Tab
Allows you to switch to the IE engine in Firefox if a page doesnā€™t display correctly in Firefox, sadly there are still a few web pages that are not properly set for anything other than IE :unamused:

Session Manager
Allows you to save browser sessions for future viewing.

All-in-One Sidebar
Allows you to view bookmarks, history, downloads ecā€™t in a sidebar.

Google Toolbar
Better search plus translate pages into other languages plus many other features.

Of course Firefox is still good by itself but with add-ons it becomes really good :wink:

Automatically loads next pages when you reach the end of a page, appending the next page to the bottom of the current one.

Saves bandwidth
Adblock Plus
Stops most adverts on a site from loading. On this site, thatā€™s stuff like the tachodisc sponsor image and the ad box down the side. You can also set up custom rules, so pretty much everything is blockable.

Flashblock
Blocks ALL Flash content from loading. It leaves placeholders on the page that allow you to click to view the Flash content.

And saves itself :smiley:

Firefox Backup - saves all your bookmarks, extensions, preferences, passwords etc

Thereā€™s hundreds of 'em, but itā€™s well worth having a read through whatā€™s available.
