Fire Retardent HiVis Coat smell

I had this in storage for a while and it was a bit dusty around the neck etc so stuck it in the washing machine to freshen it up. When it came out, it had a fishy odour to it. Noticeable, but not horrific if that makes sense. Almost as though it had been hanging in the kitchen when cooking fish. Anyway, fired it in the washing machine again and still the same. Its never been near fish, theres no fish in my washing machine (i checked  ). Any ideas on what might cause it? And how to get rid of the smell?

awaits mass sarcasm…

Give it away…Simples.

Can of petrol box of matches

I don’t use fabric conditioner on my work clothes. I find it sometimes reacts to sweat and can give off a bit of a pong.

Do that on a hill on a clear night bee seen for miles :grimacing: :grimacing:

Did you wash it in with your birds knickers?

:grimacing:

I thought it might be the glue in the fabric that honks of fish when made to “sweat” in a high temperature wash… Hence why coats tend to be done on lukewarm wash! :bulb:

It’s the fire-retardent coating that makes it stink - it will be fine when it dries out

The boiler suits that we use are exactly the same…

I burnt my old hi viz fleece in our yard skip the other week; Scary how quick those things go up. Especially as I tend to wear mine when lighting our yard fires.
