I always slept in the truck on Greek ferries especially the older ones used on the Bari or Brindisi to patras or inguminitsa crossings just went up for beer shower and food. Grimaldi lines don’t have a great record their freighters have had a couple of issues over the last few years

I have stopped in cab on top deck, in summer, ex Brindisi and Bari. No one was fussed.
I wouldn`t do that on lower decks.
Fires are not an everyday occurrence of course, but the possible bad outcome seems not worth it to me.
There are also rescuers who may be going in there to search for the missing, and see if lives can be saved.
I sailed on that one last year, it was a real bucket! Luckily we had a private cabin, as the Greeks could not give two hoots for regulations. No matter how tired i am i always head above because you just never know. Hopefully they will get a kick up the arse to give people individual cabins from now on

Still unaccounted for. Reports suggest that they may have been sleeping in their cabs because of over-crowded cabins. Having sailed one or two Med ferries, I’m surprised this hasn’t happened before now. I know we all go on about H&S bollox but, if some more of the rules had been adhered to perhaps, there wouldn’t have been such a tragic outcome to this.

I remember a story from the Herald inquiry (dunno how true).
A fire alarm went off in the court room. The herald survivors stood up and left straight away. Some others in court assumed it was a false alarm, and stayed still.

2 boats having to abandon ship in a week makes you think twice about sleeping below decks in a vehicle.
The Porsche VW carrier is left floating with several electric cars on fire that cant be extinguished by normal methods.
I’ve used Superfast and Minoan many times - Ancona - Bari - Igoumenitsa - Patras.
Always been impressed, nice ships.

He got off ok think the company he’s with have lost 3 lorries in the fire , last heard the boss had come down from Poland to tale the three drivers to Poland
