I was staying at Glen Hotel Chapelhall near Airdrie one night,mid 70s.There about 5 Spalding Haulage trunkers and a J and C Finney owder trunker,flat cap and pipe, all about ready for the off southbound.One youngish Spalding lad were bragging he’d done Chapelhall - Spalding in 5 and a quarter hours empty,they were running big Volvos and Scanias at the time.
Just then Finney’s day man pulled up outside,ERF “A” Series with 180 Gardner.Towd night man knocked his pipe out,picked his case up and said to young Spalding Haulage lad “Aye I had a wagon like that and got rid of it”.
