Finding the time for the gym in the morning as class 2 driver

Anyone go to the gym besides work of course.

Ive developed a piss poor relationship with food and alcohol although ive massively cut back on the booze. I find it far too easy to binge eat and eat junk food gaining weight.

I used to hit the gym at 2am for an hour or two which did wonders for lots of toxic stress or insonmia

Does anyone still find the time after the working week depending on job type. Id preferably like to go early morning which means bed early . But hopefully wont knacker myself before a long day on the road or depending on how many drops or how physically demanding

Anyone manage to still work gym into work routine

I hate that sluggishness from too much inactivity and ■■■■■■ diet. I think its a killer . Something i defnitly need to change

I go swimming couple times a week Friday night at ,9pm and couple nights during the week.
Fella in warehouse he goes every morning at 6 am does half an hour then come to work for 7 am start

Many years ago when I was still a regular driver, I suppose that means the ‘80s, there was a chain of gyms spreading all over the country. I went to the nearest one to my home and, after what I saw, immediately signed up for membership.

The premises, consisted of a small pool, showers, a sauna, weights etc and a restaurant with a bar. The reason I was so enthused was that all of them were situated on trading or industrial estates so ideal for a driver with room to park and sleep after winding down, dining,and relaxing with a bit of keep fit thrown in for good measure. Brilliant. But the main thing that swung it for me was the fact that membership of one meant membership of all, so a real alternative to scrabbling about for rapidly disappearing transport cafes.

Trouble was that some were very popular and became ovecrowded, mainly by members from far and wide and were crowding out the locals who only used the one they were signed up to. So that was that, they banned the general membership which was the whole point for me.

Now, after almost a year of rapidly losing weight after a heart attack but now slowly putting it back on again, I am intent on rebuilding without pure fat and so tried to sign up at a local gym with a good reputation for having good supervised activities suitable for different needs, but they want me to get a doctor’s note first. The doctor says I must wait for a specialist rdv next week before either them, or him, gives the go ahead.

Until I had a bad fall in the forest a few weeks ago, dislocating a shoulder, I used to swim briefly, most days, winter and summer in a pond in my garden, but you can’t do a front crawl with only one arm. :thinking: That would really freak out my wildlife friends if I suddenly started swimming in circles. :rofl:

After two bad experiences at gyms I no longer use them.

The first bad experience was walking into the gym and spending over an hour on the first machine which led to me being physically sick! It had Mars bars, crisps, cans of coke and many others.

The second experience was when I enrolled at a gym and asked the pretty female receptionist what machine I should use to make me more attractive to the ladies, she pointed across the road and said “that ATM over there fatty”.

I gave up then

We actually have a small gym at our site, and costs somthing like £6 a month to get use of. I don’t think many people make use of it, perhaps due to the desire to get out of work at the first opportunity each shift.

Whilst technically I don’t drive Class-1 anymore (I drive/operate mobile tower cranes now), I’m still away from home/gym Monday to Friday in hotels with no gyms nearby.

Therefore I make it a point to do heavy strength training (former 3x British Powerlifting champ) on weekends at my local JD Gym: Upper body Saturday, lower body Sunday.

It’s not easy trying to eat healthy on the road but I do my best to do 20 minute walks after a main meal, at least once daily which helps digestion. I also don’t drink alcohol or smoke and I take various health supplements and vitamins like fish oil and magnesium etc.

You have to ask yourself, do I want to be a overweight ‘walking heart attack’ like most truck/crane drivers with high blood pressure, a pot belly and die early; or do I want to see my grandkids grow up and enjoy my retirement in a relatively healthy body?
