I am a new pass class 2 driver. I am ready to look for a new job and coming from the corporate world I just find it very much different.
Obviously I have no experience yet but what other qualities I can put on my CV to compensate? I do have customer service experience, I am willing to learn, follow directions well, I passed with only 4 minors on a 14t rigid, I have great work ethic . So do i put stuff like this??
Also, i sent few emails directly to local companies near me and few agencies. Do I print out some CV and roll up to places? Who do I look for? Site manager? Transport manager?
Which websites are best? I use Indeed and Totaljobs at the moment.
Is it usually just a general talk then an assessment and thats it? Or just one interview?
Sorry for all these questions but i just really want to be strategic and optimise my work search. I have been out of a job since March and I am going crazy. I want to work.
Agency get back to you either by phone or by email. You may have to pre-register with them, then go through a registration online. After all thatās done you should get an assessment. This may be via the company the agency is hoping to place with or some āproperā assessment company (these may be more niggling than a company trainer).
Indeed is the one I use. Donāt know about totaljobs. Probably birds of a feather.
Look on total jobs indeed etc look on big companies websites eg DHL. maybe go for 7.5 t work for now gets you some experience and using a tacho.
Depends what you want to do.
Jewwons Travis Perkins are always advert.
And jewson used to put you through your hiab.maybe they still do.
Best bet is keep your options open. Gain some experience
Currently many companies use agency drivers. If you are in a full time job currently then quitting that to go on agnecy might be a risk.
Maybe try weekend work on agency to see which agency, in your own area, suits you. And if you suit them! But beware of keeping legal on hours laws if doing that. Donāt be too fussy about what work is offered at first. It is all experience.
If you tell us approximately where you are, you might get some more advice.
Ive been unemployed since March by redundancy so thats why i did my class 2. To do something i am actually interested in doing. So I am ready to go.
Lot of agencies want my physical cards and only just passed so might be another 2 weeks or more before i can startš. Even though I can drive with the cpc certificate. Most jobs online are agency unfortunately. But i applied to some local area jobs, directly through emailing them. 2 got back to me, one of them gone silent after an interview. Other one I am going to see them today. But its more like a driver/caterer job. Driving to events, set up tent, serve customers.
Some would love that, some would hate that. Up to you.
West Midlands, and you being prepared to travel to work is all good. If needed see if any agencies have smaller van work available while you await yiour papers. Show them you are keen and reliable, and get some road time etc in a smaller vehicle. Agencies want to call a driver and hear āYes, I can do thatā. It is all good experience.
One stop in walsal take new passes plus theyāll be keen to put you through your class 1. Youād be rushing around and pushing cages up to around 250kg each over broken pavements ant up slopes though . Very physical but it aināt hard.
Shame you didnāt do class 1 as theyāre advertising now
Freightroute is not overly too far away too and theyāll take new passes but the money is ā ā ā ā ā , itās experience whilst continuing the search though
It takes all types, but I would agree donāt be a prima-donna āIām a driver, I wonāt do any physical workā. A bit of physical work means no need to spend out on gym fees too!
The only job i refused is Currys, because the money just didnt represent the work of taking up fridges, washing machines to flats, arguing with customers. The reviews were very bad , being pushed for time and being pushed to risk injury, high turnover of staff.
But i dont mind physical work. I am a woman but i did physical work growing up, just coming to this country. If anything it makes me feel more useful. Lol.
Moving white goods are more about technique than brute force, but getting them into homes, installing them, and removing the old stuff? Not for me either.
Yes, all of those things are good to put on your CV. Along with being able to work on your own initiative, and willing to learn new skills.
Thereās nothing wrong with going round to companies in person. But, you must have your driver card with you. Also take some work boots and a hi-viz. You last thing you want is to get to a company willing to give you a go and then youāre not prepared to go out for an assessment.
You wonāt get that far very often, but thereās still no harm in showing your face and handing in your CV.
There is no standard procedure for interview etc. An agency will chuck you in where they need you. You may have to attend an induction and assessment (check if it is paid). Interviews are usually based on driving safely, knowing the drivers hours, maybe some road networks knowledge, with a big helping of having the right attitude.
If you donāt hear back from that company - get in touch and ask them for some feedback to help you in future interviews. It may nudge them to get back to you.
I got a jobš„³ i start on monday. I had an interview on monday gone and they called me yesterday. Its a haulage company walking distance from me. I emailed them on Friday gone
Lol, donāt hold your breath! Iāve had apples off their cart before donāt react badly though mate, itās all valuable experience, and Iām sure youāll learn a lot and experience a lot. Thatās a win win.
