Hi currently working at a parcel company doing mainly class 2 multi drop with picking and dropping a trailer for collections. It has been good for the experience as I passed my class 1 this year but I want to go onto artics full time with my current firm I only jump in them when the rigid is in for repairs.
So my question is do you think I should leave at the end of the year? The reason I got my class 1 was to get away from class 2 multi drop
Iām quite happy to go on agency just keep hearing January is a bad time to be on agency.
Never, never never leave a job for an agency āpromiseā. If you are with a parcel firm you could be leaving anyway after the Christmas rush.
Only way to get on is to move on if you are not happy Adam
Donāt leave for an agency, I wouldnāt. Their promises are like pie crustsā¦very easily broken!!.
As said above, your parcel job may finish anyway after Christmas. If it dosenāt stay there until things pick up a bit in a couple of months or so. At least youāll have a regular wage.
once the properly employed put in for their holidays and such in the new year, then thats when the agencies will be recruiting.
never ever believe anything the agency tell you,or offer you.
most of the jobs dont exist, they just want you on the books skint desperate to ā ā ā ā ā ā any crumbs thrown at you.
their job is to fit bums onto seats, they will have no concern as to how they fill them other than whos next on the list to call.
keep your proper job,or wait till you find another one.agencies are just complete and utter liars.
Not sure what type of multi drop you do, but you must get round your local area, so you must see who runs artics in your area, so either go in or phone them or email them asking for a job.
I intend to put money aside incase I donāt get regular work. I know agencies lie but itās a good way to mix it up and try many different jobs and try and find one Iāll like.
My only concern is doing it in January.
I could jump to another ft job but I might hate that as well.
Tbh muckles I only know the parcel/pallet guys. An area Iām trying to get out of.
Leave around March time. The work on agencies will have picked back up during February, and full timers will have started to take their annual leave by this point.
The last 3 weeks of January and first two weeks of February are as bad as they are - because full timers are not taking holidays, the Christmas rush is over, and the build-up for Easter (Valentines day in some firms) has not begun yet.
Thereās also a half term school holiday (first of the year) in the middle of february, that might stimulate some annual leave being taken when the mornings/afternoons are still dark.
Another advantage to starting on agency around Easter time is that you clear down your P60, and start a new tax year, which if you are not getting many shifts to start with, can get you onto tax credits, if youāre trying to run a family on a single income. I did this in 2012, and the money made up for what otherwise would have been only bitty work (one or two 12-15 hour shifts per week) on day rate. That year, it happened to be quiet after Easter as well, but I suspect that was only for me, as I never went short of work on agency at that time of the year again after that.
I actually left my previous full time job at the beginning of December, but elected to stay off work until April and the new tax year began. I would have been into the higher tax bracket if I hadnāt, as Iād received a good payoff from that previous job. You donāt ever want to be paying 45% as emergency tax!
In the Essex area BTW would love to do Eu type work but only guys I know that do that are Kent Foods and I havenāt heard good things about them.
go and work for them and find out first hand.if you dont like it,then you will have done some euro work, and who cares if you widened the train dragging the trailer on or squidged a few taliban coming backā¦get fired,or chuck it in march and your better off with a bit of euro done.bring back 80 cases of plonk on your bunk and its another 500 quid on top of your wages each trip.

80 cases on the bunk,
get done for overloading the front axle, let alone anything else,
and itās a slippery slope, first itās booze, then ā ā ā ā , then drugs and then free accommodation at Her Majestyās pleasure.

That never ever even crossed my mind.
