Just want to say hi been meaning to do it for a long time but never got around to it!
Been looking on this forum for about the last 5 years and it’s helped me massively! I’m a 25 year old supervisor in a council workshop which since I have been there has become a private company. I was lucky enough to get my class 2 at 20 and my class 1 not long after being 21. I started as a apprentice mechanic and just working my way along! It’s been a great job as I have had the opportunity to do so much I get to go out gritting this time of year which is great fun but can be hard trying to get the trucks around the towns late at night and early morning when everyone’s cars are everywhere! Also got to go out on the dustcarts great fun too! We run a few artics to landfill and I have also been lucky enough to do that! Within 2 weeks was out fully loaded on a Saturday morning in a 44 ton truck trying to drive and reverse on a landfill site in the mud! The trailer was not going where I wanted it too but where the tracks in the mud were!! I also get to do recovery work which is great! With all this I had a gap year in Australia last year which involved a job riding a motorbike in one of the most beautiful places ever and taking pretty girls out on a tour for the day! I was living the dream but did miss the uk! Anyway just wanted to say hi and have wanted to get involved in some of the conversations before but felt I should say hello and introduce myself first!!
One day my career dream is to get into the f1 side of artic driving I really fancy giving that ago and then maybe one day getting into the heavy recovery side too!
The main thing that puts me off a life on the road at the moment is trying to keep fit! Always wonder if there was gyms in service stations ect would truck drivers use them?? Do many of you try and keep fit??
Thanks for letting me say hi and now I hope I can get involved in some of the banter in here!
