Filling up and a cup of coffee

this is not a very big deal.
i drove in europe for years.
every time i got fuel, there was always a cup of coffee offered when paying.
i am now doing a lot of work for a uk firm[casual].
i use a c.h.jones fuel card,its only uk work.
i have got fuel in about 40 different locations, and never have been offered a cup of coffee.
i can get fuel in some motorway services using this card.
i got 300 ltrs today in sandbach on the m6.
a 50 pence voucher for overpriced undercooked food not fit for pigs i was given.
i asked could i get a coffee instead.
no,use the voucher in the restaurant.[its in the bin]
they want 1.80 for a coffee in the garage at sandbach.
i wont be paying that.
the uk has always been terrible towards drivers.
give me europe anytime,if she would let me back out.

C.H.Jones are a bunkering company. The service stations you use are not the people selling you fuel, they are just temporary storage for C.H.Joneses fuel before you collect it. Your boss has already had all the perks by paying a much lower than pump price for the fuel. That 50p voucher was purely a goodwill gesture by Sandbach services, to you. You can collect them and then spend several together (I think) to get a free coffee. Although some services give you 1 voucher per 100l, some don’t.

These vouchers are as Simon said just a goodwill gesture to attract drivers, some cleaning stations I use in the UK give you wine vouchers or a free meal for the same reason. I normally get a free coffee when I take fuel in Europe but never expect one in the UK.

i know the system all right with the bunkering.
the coffee is a terrible price [as is tea] in these places.
i might be going on full time, that is going back to the truck l;ife,
been off it 5 yrs now and its getting me down.
cant leave them alone.
i will be buying a coffee maker for my truck.
we have 2 coffeeholicks on this site.

I will second that but you don’t have to look for very long on this forum to find blokes who say

I would NEVER do continental work because you don’t earn more money doing it

So do they deserve any better■■?

dafdaveNone at all harry you have hit the nail right on the head and while the uk lads put up with it things will never get any better.I put off driving abroad for yrs. by being a bit aprehensive but once i did it i kicked myself and wished id done it yrs. before.

Used to get a free coffee (Hot Chocolate in my case, not keen on coffee in UK) at toddington services southbound M1. Also a handfull of vouchers to get something to eat and you could use Them in Burger King.

The best vouchers at the time dont know if they are still available, was at Oxford services, a 1 pound voucher for every 200 litres, but you could spend them on anything in the shop!!! Used to save them up and buy CD´s Maps and alsorts :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Yes you can save up the tokens and you get them at Clacket Lane too. A free coffee for about every couple of grand the boss spends on fuel may sound bad but it is not just the coffee, it is the whole experience of pretending to be mega richand visiting one of the most expensive restaurants in Europe.
Also joking aside, contrary to most motorway services, the staff at Sandbach are very friendly and it is actually a pleasurable experience going in.
This is not just to do with the fact I am mesmerised by the beauty who works on the southbound side; I have spoken to her many times since early 2000 but she never remembers me.
All my 50p coffee vouchers to anyone who can get me her phone number. (She is the pretty one who has been there about 7 years).

never a truer word has been said.
i am doing a job at the moment.
it entails maybe 2 nts away driving an artic tipper.
the money here is the same as a lot of continental jobs i know of in both england and ireland.
i bring the sandwiches with me,so na wasting money in service area.
i notice the transports cafes are not far behind the services.
i was in lymn.
its silly prices in there.

I sorted that quote for you, I think thats what you meant anyway. Simon

i will get this quote thing right one of these days.the first 2 lines of my previous post was the quote.
