Filling out an Analogue Tacho

A senior driver at my current employer issues us all with analogue tachos and asks that we complete them manually (so they match what’s recorded on our digi cards), however all but one wagon has a digi unit. (The wagon with the analogue unit is a hiab which I don’t use as I am not hiab trained)
As a new driver in a new job I thought the whole point of a digi card was that it records your driving time, other work , rest periods etc on the card. Confused as to why he gets us to fill out an analogue as I to my understanding there is no legal requirement to complete an analogue manually when your duty time has already been recorded on the digi card?? Asked him why we do this and his reply was that because he issues us all with the analogues we are required by law to complete them manually.

Is he talking ■■■■■■■■? . . . . Any clarification welcome.

Thanks

I too am a new driver, my understanding is that as long as there is a record of your work, be it analogue or digital, you only need one or the other, no reason I can see to be filling in an analogue as well as digital. Definitely no legal reason to do it.

I’ll clarify the situation for you, your “senior driver” is an idiot who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, just because they issue you with charts doesn’t mean they legally have to be completed.

There may be a company rule about completing charts that have been issued but it’s certainly not the law.

Legally the charts you complete have no use whatsoever so feel free to tell him I said he’s a fool

Lets hope there are not to many of these ‘Senior drivers’ helping new drivers out. Im guessing the OP’s boss will back whatever crap is coming out of this guys mouth as well.

Your senior driver is a bell end. You can pass that on also.

He is talking utter ■■■■■■ There is no requirement for you to record anything manually that is on your digicard. It’s a waste of time and money, and would probably lead anyone doing an audit to assume they were dealing with amateurs.

According to “experts” like this everything is a legal requirement. I once got told I was breaking the law because I didn’t use the same vehicle for every day of my six day shift.

Does it matter? Company wants it doing - they pay you for doing it. I can’t think why they want it doing but you could say that for a lot of things companies have you do.

Yes he is talking ■■■■■■■■ about it being law but perhaps you have misunderstood what he actually wants? Just take a copy of the GV262 to him and ask which page this ‘law’ is on

Thanks to all who have responded to my query.

I will admit that in the 5 weeks of being here I’ve completed the analogue’s for only 1 of those weeks. I instead do a daily print off at the end of my shift and keep hold of them. As we’re all on salary there’s no checking up on what we’re doing or how long we’re are taking so long as all the drops are done etc.

We don’t have a transport manager so nobody actually see’s these completed analogues anyway, we just keep hold of them for our own personal record.

As it’s a pointless exercise to fill out analogue’s as has been confirmed here on this thread, why do it.
The print offs are for more informative than a questionably filled out analogue anyways and it matches all the paperwork accurately.

There’s no need to do daily printouts unless you want one for your own records.

There’s no legal reason to do printouts unless it’s to make a manual entry explaining a deviation from the regulations.

Yeah I do print outs as a sort of back up if you like, just in case somebody (employer) for some reason wants to check some of my activity and in the absence of the analogues I’ve got the print outs instead.

Doesn’t your employer download the data from the driver card ?

They are legally required to do a download no later than 28 days from the day after the last download.

Every Friday, but this place isn’t the well oiled machine I expected. Alas I’m already looking for another job!

Take all the tacho the ‘expert’ wants you to record, then after 42 days dump lot on TM desk and say ’ All yours’ as requested by said expert and walk away laughing [emoji23]

He said … We don’t have a transport manager :open_mouth:

He did, forgot that bit!

I’d still dump them onto owner/big wigs desk then and add that the extra cost of tacho charts must be why my wages aren’t going up [emoji57][emoji57]
