Hi rowland i think he’s back on containers out of Southampton,he used to cost us a fortune in dash dandy spray polish the bugger used to do the walls of the tyres on the truck with it,but he was always polishing the whole truck.

Hi again Rowland, thanks for your kind comments about the 88 i remember when we were refurbing her we did buy a donor vehicle for lots of the little bits and bobs you find you need.I think we did try and restrain from over doing the truck as i feel alot of people that do a restoration like we did put to much crap on and in the end spoil the final result,in my opinion the plainer it is the better the look and it is not cheap to do either,Our 88 worked for its keep plying the roads in europe as well as over here and every where it went drivers were agast to see a truck that old doin the job, infact many times " The Tart " as we named Tony used to say he would here on the CB radio, theres an F88 comin towards us yes it really is an 88 i dont think they expected to see it,in fact the first trip abroad for us was to Bosnia when a much later volvo let us down at the last minute and this was before we painted her,of course it was not as economicle as newer trucks but that was understandable it had a much lesser engine,in the end i was sad to see her go but sold it well to a man who was equally enthusiastic as the tart and she carried on working, last i heard she ended up in Ireland but ime not sure about that.Cheers Buzzer.
i loved the fh’s i drove a few but allways liked the older ones best here’s a couple i drove for quite a few years
Here’s one I had at Duke’s for a while loading, sheeting & roping a few trailers at Perkins Engines, Peterborough. I didn’t have it from new but do believe it was one of Dukes’ first and an early model sold into N. I. I was based at the Huddersfield depot at the time but usually worked the FH out of the Crick depot but that could change as things do
I was a lone roamer who went to different depots and worked out of there when needed, anything from a week to 2/3 months at a time. It was sometime’s a pain if I had to change motors too regularly but usually it would stay with me until the next assignment came up. There were 2 of us working like this, one guy based at the Portadown depot and me covering the mainland and feeding Stranraer Depot & Cairnryan port.
