Do VOSA work 24/7? I never seem to see them at night, but this morning I seem them about 4am on the M6 so I’m guessing either there few and far between at night or they start in the early hours on a Monday morning.
2nd question
What are the regs at night, one I’m confused at is the 10 hour shift, is this if your shift starts between 0000 - 0400 or is it if your shift enters those hours at any time that your shift has to be reduced to 10?
3rd and final
With me being agency based I get all different rates for different places, what is a back shift, is it afternoon until late? This seems the highest rate, it’s even higher than nights for some reason?

That 10 hours does not refer to total shift time but refers to the total of drive/work done in that shift so a shift could be 15 hours with 10 hours of drive/work in it
If I’m with an agency how would I know if I’m opted out? Reason being I started at 1900 yesterday and finished at 0600, 8.50 driving in total, 1 hours break and 70 mins other work

I am not sure how it works with agencies but I would not worry about it because in your situation who is going to care ?
Night Shift
For the purpose of the Regulations, night time is between midnight and 4am (for goods vehicles) and 1am and 5am (for passenger vehicles). Anyone who works during that period will be regarded as a night worker, regardless of when they start or finish work. Unless there is a workforce agreement in place, night workers must not exceed a shift work limit of 10 hours in any 24-hour period regardless of when the shift starts or finishes. Breaks and POAs are not included in the 10-hour limit
Is it a bit of a grey area then? I’m guessin it’s just worth asking everytime I go to a new company and I think I’m gonna do over 10 hours weather they have the workforce agreement in place or not

To be honest if your happy doing 15hours i’d just keep quiet.

Dont think their all that interested in WTD but i could be wrong. Its certainly not running bent if thats what your worried about.

When you go to a company just ask what the score is surely that’s the easiest thing to do.
Yeah that’s exactly what ill do just to cover my own back, I’m only fairly new to it all so I’m still learning and getting my head around hours etc, this site helps me out alot though
