Few newbie questions

Good evening guys.

I’m looking into doing my cat c but have a few questions. I’m currently driving coaches so used to large vehicles, I pick things up really quickly therefore how many hours roughly would you estimate id need for training?

Also because I have this license would I need another medical to add c provisional on my license and when I pass does the cpc for my coach add on or do I have to sit specific cpc tests?

Finally if you can reccomended a good training provider in yorkshire I’d be very interested to speak to them.

Thanks

Tom

Cant imagine you would have a problem passing cat c if you drive coaches so would say no more than two days i.e 8 hours. Thats only to get you used to the new blind spots.

Re good driving schools have a search for any post done by ROG and at the bottom of his status is a link to everything you will ever need to know. Sorry unable to answer your other questions

Check your licence to see if it has C as provisional if it does you dont need medical

Your cpc for coaches should count for your HGV so no need to do that again yet

Find a training provider or 2 go visit them ask for assessment drive see what they say & advise

Yorkshire brings Elmet LGV training to mind elmetdrivertraining.co.uk/

If you have C provisional on the paper part of your licence then no medical needed
If you have recently done a D4 medical then that will cover it if not got provisional on licence
If not done a recent D4 medical or got C provisional then you need to do one

If not got a pre 1997 car licence or passed a DSA LGV C1 (7.5) test then you will need to do initial LGV DCPC modules 2 and 4

Passing LGV mod 4 will add LGV to your current DQC - the expiry date will stay the same if you have done 35 hours of PCV periodic dcpc
If you passed initial PCV DCPC mods 2 and 4 then passing the LGV mods 2 and 4 MIGHT move the DQC expiry date - let me know if this is the case so I can check on that for you

Number of training hours will need an assessment to determine that

Thanks for the detailed advice. I rang the dvla and they confirmed I do need another medical. As for the CPC I did initially pass the mod 2 and 4 on PCV which expires next October.

Once I’ve got my provisional entitlement I’ll get sherburn phoned up see what they can do for me.

LGV or PCV initial?

Does not count for LGV

Have you done the 35 hours periodic dcpc after passing mod 4 PCV ?

If not then passing LGV mod 4 will extend the DQC date for both PCV & LGV to 5 years from when you pass LGV mod 4

Only had 8 hours but present coach firm are considering putting me through the rest. Ideally I want to be in a truck by then
