Ferry mode

Hi,

A bit confused with ferry mode…

I know that the traditional scenario is:

Rest while waiting to load
Ferry mode and shunt onto ferry.
Back on to rest
(Sail)
Ferry mode and shunt off ferry
Back on rest and compensate to 11hr. (Both shunts less than 1hr total.)

For the work I’m doing at the moment it would be better if I do.

Other work while waiting to board.
Move onto ferry and start daily rest.
8.5 hrs sail.
Ferry mode (OUT)
Shunt off
Back on rest and complete daily rest, with compensation.

I haven’t seen any infringements for the second scenario, yet! But my unit was shouting at me all day that I hadn’t had enough rest…

And, I didn’t use the ferry mode (IN) , just straight onto rest. Is this ok.

Cheers

What I do is this -
get into the port and put the tacho to daily rest and ferry mode start
Shunt on the boat ( say 5 minutes ) and back to rest .
Shunt off the boat and drive 30 minutes and park up and back on rest
When I have completed the 11 hour break I then do the Ferry mode finish.
I beleive this is the correct way ( for a V4 Volvo) as I don’t get any problems with the tacho flashing up an insufficient break, other trucks may differ .

beefy4605:
Shunt off the boat and drive 30 minutes and park up and back on rest

The rules…

Have changed substantially since I was boat chasing. Back then it was one movement allowed either on or off, not both. I’m assuming the 30 minutes just isn’t included in the overall drive time?

If that’s the case, they get another half an hour out of us.

Not having a go mate, just trying to understand.

2 shunts allowed total time of driving and other work must not exceed 1 hour
you need 11 hours break and if you count in the 1 hour(for shunting on and off the ferry ) it totals 12 hours . If you have to have 11 hours break you must be parked up with no more than 12 hours duty time ie -
start shift at 0600
Enter ferry port at 17.45 and on to daily rest and start Ferry mode
19.00 5 minute shunt on to ferry and back to daily rest
22.00 off the ferry and drive/ other work a max of 55 minutes (that also includes time sitting in queues to exit the port )
Park up at 22.40 and back on daily rest (total shunt on / off boat time 45 minutes )
05.30 11 hours daily rest completed Ferry mode finish and (if my maths are correct) your good to start another shift

If they don’t pay I can wait for the next boat after my 11 hour break . They then get to pay me for the time I sit on the boat drinking coffee - their choice , I don’t really care .lol

Your good EXCEPT,
Drive onto ferry
End country
ENTRY VEHICLE: FERRY
when you return to the vehicle the ferry icon will still be showing
Start country
Drive off ferry
Park and tacho to rest

When you start you shift you should be good to go. You might get a “take daily rest” alert as you drive off the ferry but so long as you’ve done an 11 with whatever compensation you’re good.

That sound like what I’m trying to achieve. I’ll shall have a go at this, this week.
