Hi I’m after some advise as I’m having an argument with a “manager” at work reference the use off ferry mode on the tacho. This is what I have been doing for 12 years
Arrive at ferry port 1000 put on ferry mode and rest
Drive on to ferry put back on ferry mode and rest
The ferry crossing is 2hrs 30 mins
Drive off the ferry park up take my card out and go home. So my daily rest starts at 1000 including the shunt on and off the ferry and the time the ferry takes I have a total off 11 hours.
He is telling me
Arrive at port 1000 put on rest
just before I drive on to the ferry put on ferry mode.
Drive on ferry put back on rest
Just before I drive off the ferry switch to ferry mode and drive off.
Can anybody confirm which way is right and which way is wrong.
REGULAR rest 11 off.
Have access to bunk/ hammock or couchette, bed or cabin
Two movements embark/ disembark not totalling more than an hour
Your manager is correct/ we are just thick truck drivers
Yes book off before 13 hour spread, hence 11 hours regular rest OFF!
But when you park up in foreign country/ do you book off there too
ILL THOUGHT OUT IN MY OPINION/ just like the driving hours/ goes to fortnightly.
Arrive at port
Rest. End country
Ferry mode when ready to board
Back onto rest when boarded
Ferry mode disembark
When parked up Rest ,and put in end country if it comes up when taking card out .
11 hours plus time shunting on and off .
The ferry ‘setting’ is used to show the point at which you interrupt the rest period - which would mean that your way of doing it is technically wrong and the boss is right.
The post above has it right. Arrive port, end country then rest until time to embark. Select ferry, move onto ferry, select rest. When leaving ferry select ferry, park up, end country then rest or eject card.
There is no legal definition when Ferry mode button should be “hit” when boarding embarking ferry/train AFAIA.
As long as VOSA/Police can see the two “marks” on downloads and you took 11hrs rest plus time to “shunt” under 1hour I’ve never had:
“You hit button at wrong time drive”!!!
I’ve never done ferry’s before. I am wondering where ferry mode is on a digital tachograph? I thought there were only the 3 standard modes. Drive, other work and rest!
