Sharpness Docks, spent a few weekends walking round there looking at the Ships. Somewhere at home I must have a photo of the only Ship I was on at Sharpness. That was in 1954, it was T.S. Vindicatrix.

And to think that, on the Gloucestershire thread, no-one believed me when I reckoned that there was a firm in Sharpness that operated Dennis artics! If memory serves, I think that they were Perkins V8-powered but I’m sure somebody will confirm or deny.

Hiya well yes I would of believed you also if I had seen it.That pic was taken on Preston docks by a very
old friend who goes by the name of jakdaw The company was Greenore Ferry Services (Preston).
When work started to go to Heysham-Fleetwood-Liverpool.Preston had to look for another opening Sharpness then came on the scene in the mid 60s.Myself and Gordon farrell went down there to set it up Gordon got the first dennis truck painted
in the original colours of green/yellow.The colour fawn was to be the new colours.Which I got hence the pic.I was suprised
that the forum Greenore Ferry Services had a poor response as Sharpness was mentioned.Bakers of Stonehouse were one
of the main sub contractors for them down there. They run maybe 15 motors when it was up and running,so you were right
“Retired Old ■■■■”.Last time I went to Sharpness dks was to load cement of Dragon cement company.Iwas there overnight
on taking a walk the dock I spotted to of the nafi that we took down there rusted but I reckonised them from all them
years ago.One of the loaders at Dragon said he worked on the dock when they were there.Anyone else out there.

We did a bit of work for Dragon from Sharpness but the vast majority was for Castle, some for distribution and some for blending at Ketton. We also hauled for Rugby out of Newport.

The docks are still going strong attracting ships from all over Europe and beyond, a recent visitor The Arctic Dawn is currently in the South China Sea on route to Korea after loading at Sharpness. This is her maiden voyage and at 17mtrs beam she only just fitted through the locks. Pictures can be found in the January section of the News link.

Vicks also did Greenore work out of Sharpness just before my time, from what I can gather it was mainly peat on Lancashire flats; interesting loads to say the least. Then mid 70’s a Spanish shipping line starter bringing in containers, mainly Super Ser gas heaters which went to Nottingham and 20’ wine tanks to Harlow. Yarn from Courtaulds of Grimsby were exported

Hi, Guesty. A couple of years prior to that, did you do work with tipping trailers on the M5 widening job?
