Felixstowe port and high winds

I was booked in all week with a company taking containers from Felixstowe, did a day but now they’ve cancelled the drivers coz the high winds mean the port is not working. At what wind speed to they stop ops there?

From what I can gather if someone does a half decent ■■■■ they call a halt.

It has always been the same in any docks. Years ago liverpool would stop if you said wind, it didn’t have to blow,

When you say rip in Ipswich you are talking about a ■■■■ and not about ripping a prostitute? Because that would be really bad taste. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

hairdryers are banned in ipswich to stop the dock getting shut…

its even affected me at teesport as we rely on the feeder vessel to bring our boxes up from felixstow

What always tickles me, though, is that at Teesport itself they don’t actually stop lifting with the cranes until the safety cut-out renders them inoperable…And if it’s gusty they’ll stop up in the cabs, and move a foot at a time every time it releases for a couple of seconds. The stacker trucks don’t shut down at all, they just shut their windows and dig out what they can from wherever they can. :sunglasses: :stuck_out_tongue:

ports open now, but it seems vbs are a bit of a sod to get.
at wincantski this afternoon, they had 6 planners all hitting refresh when the next set of vbs bookings came ont he system in order to get as many as they could… they got 4 in total before no more were issused :unamused:
this morning wasnt much better, i was told i might have to wait after 7am, despite having a booking at 8am in milton keynes :unamused: think some other subbie gave em a slot and i was away…a little late

i had an unusual problem last week, i couldnt get a box until the tide went out :open_mouth: apparently it was an exceptional high tide and the crane couldnt get over the coms and radar spinny thing on the ship to reach my box, 2hrs and 10 feet of water later he got it out

i was in there at 03.00 this morning, it was very quiet.
straight in and out.
