It was going to be turned into one and two bed apartments, but it appears John Williams Dollars were bigger
He won’t finish Stobarts off, the WS arm will ensure of that…
MT added another 150 trailers to their taut fleet too only few month back according to their socials, and have applications in for sites around Ipswich with regards to trailer storage according to local rags.
So I’d bet they are gonna hoover up what WS dump, stobart lose, or are aiming at the ‘storage’ side of the market if brexit implodes…
No denying, he’s a smart business man that’s for sure, and it’s giving work.
Prime spot that so it’d have gotten to have been a few mill to buy it, shame to see it go as its an eye sore yes, but a bit of a landmark none the less.
Makes good sense to have it all on one spot logistically though, and if it provides employment then good on MT I say, besides there’s tons of residential development/redevelopment sites around Felixstowe, including the plethora of derelict hotels on the front, and as a whole there is a lot of it happening already, i just hope they will really focus on the ‘affordable’ section as it’s badly needed.
Don’t get me wrong a nice view over the Docks would be good for me, but really it wasn’t a logical solution to turn it into residential as ultimately that amount of foot fall could be closer placed to the town, thus maybe helping locals spend in house, thus helping the town to revive, and as I said above its better to me that it be used to generate hopeful employment opportunities and subsequent spending into the local economy that way.
The only question really, is, will the smaller competition be able to compete in whichever sectors MT target, as really they are getting to stobart size levels of coverage already I’d say, if not probably bigger…?

Looking at past Martime media, they seem to have a slightly different view on business, eg some of the companies they have bought were bought for the land or depot location.
As far as I’m aware Maritime are the biggest box mover in UK, but I imagine Turners group and Wincanton aren’t far behind, so I wouldn’t think a debt laden company like Stobarts would be in their sights.
Maritime I believe operate Tesco Snodland and I’ve seen a lot of their vehicles pulling Amazon trailers lately.
Didn’t Anzani have to come down cos it was riddled with asbestos?

Judging by the dust blowing off the pile this afternoon I’d like to hope not, although I’d be more inclined to be wondering how Mr Williams is gonna react when his window cleaner chimes up with the bill for giving hq a wash down…[emoji28]
