Can anyone tell me what the average wage is at the moment?, what is the work situation at the moment down there?, are there many companies looking for drivers at the moment?, any infomation would be appreciated.
Thanks
Average wage: 1 whole penny!!!, before deductions that is
Can anyone else shed anymore light on the subject? Any answers would be great.
don’t know if they are actively looking, but there is Maritime, wincantons, elite, debens, rcl and others
try knocking on some doors, there are plenty of them to try in felixstowe, all outside the port gates

There are lots of agencies in the south east wanting container drivers, often stating days nights weekends, what they dont say is that you will be doing the lot!Maritime Transport are always looking for drivers and Goldstar Transport might be worth a try, both these firms have depots at most of the major UK ports.I have just given my job up as i did this for about four months solid i hated every minute of it, the main problem agents pushing you and pushing you no time for toilet or meal breaks very difficult to keep legal, the plus side, if its all on the floor when you open the doors on a 40 or 45 then you got about 6 hours in the bunk, and boy you need it! trouble is i got spoilt as i got put on European work for holiday cover right in the middle of it, of course enjoyed meeting un miserable people, being treated properly and nice long ferry rides with a few meals and a beer thrown in, when i returned to UK container work my heart sunk, i only survived for about 10 more weeks, now i,m scratching around agencies which dont seem a lot better, as all the rot you have to cart along with you utility bills passports etc! just to drive for Tescos! my heart is not behind me here, but i am praying i will get an interview date with van den bosch soon, they will save me from Tescos that i hope! Good luck with the container work, i,m sure you will easily get something if thats the area you are interested in.
Goldstar had an advert in my local rag last week , looking for drivers for day or night work at thier Woolpit depot (which is about half an hour from the docks)…it says container experience an advantage , competitive rates of pay…apply to Rob Summers on 07899 982096…good luck
so, if you live 300 miles from Felixstowe, why move there?
why specifically containers? even if it is containers that you want to do, why not try a company nearer to you, such as maritime or elite, they have depots throughout the country

Thanks for the inside view, who did you work for on containers? i have done containers for three years working for deben transport out of southampton, but working for £6.33 ph did not seem worth it,i only stuck at it cos its easy work,i live in swansea now and theres now work so i am thinking of going to felixstowe to grab some work.
i hope you get the break you are looking for with van den bosch soon.sounds like a great job

New contracts, expanding company etc?
No idea, but I work for them and it’s the same job as I’ve done elsewhere.
Maritime bought DHL containers not long ago & are now I think the biggest container transport firm in the UK. I get the impression the job is pretty decent if you are employed by them and they have cracking motors all be it governed to 52mph, which wouldn’t bother me as such, once you get in to the groove of moseying along, just don’t become an owner driver for them or you will be doomed.
Have you tried Eddie Stobart on Tesco’s at Avonmouth or Asda’s? Co Op is opening soon as well there if I’m not mistaken.Wincanton, Lafarge plasterboard also? Seems a bit extreme to move from one end of the country to the other particularly if you have extended family in Wales.
