Yep a predictable thread about steering wheel covers.
Anyway after a week off and my beloved company vehicle suffering relief driver abuse by what I can only presume is him biting the steering wheel or digging his nails into it I deceided to invest in a steering wheel cover.
Boring I here you cry, well I thought so till I got my hands on it.
Now what I presume is just a £15 inner tube with some stitching and colours on it has drastically improved my driving style.
Hard to see why but the smooth padded feel and the extra girth has made it a pleasure to get my hands on it, driving forward is more relaxed and even my reversing which wasn’t to bad to start with has improved.
Anyone else got a sweet grip on the wheel or has held something which makes them feel nice.
Oh I do realise its a slippery slope to pelmets and peekaboos like our Robroy but hopefully I can resist.
I have a driver who swears by them, but then every other driver who uses his truck, moans like hell and the first thing they do is take it off. Personally I don’t like the extra girth But maybe that says more about me than I should be sharing on here

It’s one of those, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it things I suppose.
Can see their point though when I had one of those leather jobbies in my first car, years ago, the sort you wrap around and around, it was horrid. Never got it tight enough and it kept coming unwrapped and getting all frayed at the edges.
I cut it off in the end.
Tried a thin flimsy one but that was no good so went the whole hog and got this 18 inch truck one which is great.
Didn’t realise I needed one till I had to borrow another drivers truck.
I don’t like them, I prefer it without an extension. I’m a Volvo driver, so I already have an average girth. I can understand the need for a scania driver to have one, they have a very small girth. As for man drivers with their large girth, I can’t see the need for one in a man
It’s a slippery slope Dave, next to come will be a pair of leatherette driving gloves to grip the girth. It’ll probably feel like someone else has their hands in it
