He told me that, said if you damage out like sussies etc it comes out of your wages £10 per week until it is paid. This is not economical as a driver could leave if he has £10 a week to pay for a couple of years so 1. They don’t get the full money back, 2 They lose another driver and 3 They have a new driver to train
harry:
Why don’t you try H+R in Lethbridge Canada? Give 'em a call?Tell 'em you’re ex-army,all they need is fit young drivers & to hell with UK agency muppets.
Got an auntie In Halifax Nova Scotia shes always saying if I want a job driving over there can stop with her till im settled bloody tempting now wheres my suitcase? Lol

Don’t give up mate I was in same situation (ex Army ink still wet on class one), once you find a decent agency, and there are some out there, as advised by other posters, take on any jobs, vans etc and prove yourself reliable and versatile, after a while they will probably trust you enough to have a go on bigger vehicles. You will still occasionally get the rough jobs, but they will look after you.
The most naive post I’ve seen on here for a while…
They look after no one but themselves mate. You’ll learn!
So is that based on personal experience then, or just the usual blind hatred for agencies? I used to run one and had a lad with a car licence and a drink drive, but he was a good lad and one particular customer loved him to bits, so we financed his training and got him up to class one. They were still using him two years later when we sold up.
Wife thinks I am nuts! On my way to the interview at RB yesterday Agency called me up and said we are bringing that job forward for you.
Right the Job they are talking about is Friday until Monday nights £10 per hour, £15 after 8 hours, £14 per hour right through on Saturday and £17 per hour right through on Sunday.
On Friday they said “come through and register today so we can start you on Monday for this job”. After registration again! as I registered last year and they mucked me about then, they started changing the story. They said a 65 year old chap is covering for someone next week so you can start it the following week. They initially said no one was doing it and it is a great job etc. then they called me late Friday to say they will try and get me started on that job but they have to persuade the TM at the firm that I will be OK because I have only had my licence two years!
So back to me driving to the interview yesterday and the phone rings. Agency again that job has been brought forward. I said let me stop you there, I am going for a full time job as I can’t sit at home waiting to see if I get a job from you.
The thing is they lie all the time. Last year they said they had three jobs for me all brilliant of course and all fantastic pay. Only none of them materialised. Also I suspect this good job was covering for someone on holiday and then they would shove me on a crap job as they keep stressing pay rates change with different jobs and you have to accept it. Or I would have been left in the lurch again.
So pay isn’t everything. As I told the missus, RB may be only £8.50 per hour and a good way to travel but I will get the time in and put an end to this two year crap. I get 3/4 calls a week still from agencies asking me to work, TRG Logistics called me yesterday asking me to do Asda at Normanton. I said straight away I have not got two years experience on my licence. It is on my CV in front of her FFS. Oh sorry she says…
Looking forward to starting work on Monday. At least I will kow what I am doing week to week

Oh it’s the experience mate. The only people that believe what you stated are the ones that run one!
Put it this way. If a person at any driving/recruitment agency said it was raining in Manchester, I wouldn’t believe them until I’d checked it out…
