What surprises me s that even though there is no work, going around shops it s still quite busy?

i changed job after 25yrs at same firm as it changed so much in the last few yrs.just not same there and even though id been longer that most was over looked for a new motoer which they struggles to get from the main depot.
so went to a irish firm for 4 weeks but it was not what they said and u was working 13 to 15 hr shifts for £100 a day yes u got a nice big motor topline scania with microwave and firgde and frezzer.but money is main thing to me.rang a few places and found one through a m8 i worked with at other firm 5 min from home £13 a hour and work was same i did at the firm i worked for 25 yrs as they taken on the jobs they let go so know job well.
other week boss told us the recession is here now and is here to stay no matter what people say.hes told us no one will loose their job at all.ok one day u may do very little or be in yard or otehrsu maybe out on road earning.one week may be good otehr may be quiet but all got to take rough with smooth for now.but we will be payed min 50hrs no matter what.but if u leave for anotehr job being told its better money then find out few weeks later its not then do nto coem back as there will be no job for u.as he will not refill ur place at all.also told u may have od the odd weekend if needed on crane work which pays welll for it so thats not a problem for meas im single some say they can not due to family or what. boss says that ok but dont moan about others if they earn more because they do it and ur not getting any work in week or hell just tell u to pack up and go.
im happy with what i do now and know where we stand at end of day if u at a place thats keeping u working ok not as much but brings a wage in every week then id stay till things get better maybe a long slog but be worth it in end and can only get better.maye worth some of the agancy guys looking for permanent work now ifthey want a regular wage,but its not what everyone wants at end of day
Now we are in December and Black Friday is over how are things going?
I am still slow, last two weekends offered work on Sat and Sun, £180 per shift or £200 if over ten hours.
Was offered Friday night 6pm start £15ph.

Quite busy again with Tesco now it seems, in the run-up to Christmas, but I’m hearing the depot has to take around 30 drivers from their warehouse to wheels scheme soon, so not sure how the New Year will pan out. Might need to sign up with some other agencies to try to keep the fortnightly Sunday work going.
Got the core 3 or 4 “regular” agency guys in at our place a few days a week but still but really quiet. Previous years we have had hauliers in pre booked from 1st of Nov, no sign of them this year. We did take on a load of new drivers in October as well though for a load of new shops we bought but haven’t started servicing yet so that will affect things. As well as half a dozen plus warehouse to wheels apprentices.
Back of house at most stores is rammed, not like the shelves are empty either though. People just dont seem to have the overflowing trollies I used to see and seem to be going down the unbranded route to save a bit.
Just glad I came back full time and don’t need or want the overtime

Knowing my luck the client would phone for an ambulance or insist that I am unfit to drive my car home. They too are having a nightmare with communication with the agency when they want drivers, the agency are not answering the phone or emails, so much so that they are phoning me and others directly asking if I’m available etc.
Before I jump ship I’m making sure that I get my holiday pay 1st before I go anywhere else.
Hi agency work has fallen off a cliff for me due to a couple of things the general downturn of work as winter and the ressesion bites also had no personal transport for a couple of weeks now trying to get back to a semblance of normallity but with little success it looks like a lot of core drivers are wanting to do max hours to get a bit in before christmas so the credit card bills are not so much of a shock in jan /feb
the pre christmas rush is just not happening with sales way down on black friday and cyber monday there may be a bit of a lift by the end of the week or next week due to the bad weather and drivers run out of useable hours hey ho rough with the smooth
My mate with a fresh class 1 and only 2 weeks experience has, just suddenly these past few days, been offered work every day/night. Perhaps there will be a mad rush these next 10 days.
