Feast to Famine - agency

Goff118:
Same story for me.

Our stories are polar opposites, you are starting out and I’m a lifelong agency driver

Off to espanha again doze? :sunglasses:

I look forward to seeing someone do a google image search of the holiday photos he posts, just like when he posted the picture of his new apartment in Benidorm and someone did a photo search and found it was a stock photo from a holiday brochure

Sounds about right sure anyone who gets paid a weeks wages for 3 days work is entitled to exceed his own expectations in his mind, it’s been proven a few times that he’s a bit of a Walter Mitty living in a make believe world but most seem to accept it for what it is, a world beyond what we mortals think is normal, a layman’s term would be a world of his own, god bless him

I wish the agency would cancel my shift today.

Still waiting to get tipped. My next shift starts at 13:00 today

Who needs a social life lmao.

if you are one of the ones whose hours are cut may be your big chance to try something totally different while still got the cushion of some driving money.A couple of years ago i randomly started art as a sideline not a hobby .it hasnt overtaken my day work but i think it will in a few years.Selling it online. A mate of mine started parttime in Smyths toyshop when covid was about to make up his hours now hes doing more there than HGV.

Really , then away you go & post up this thread , as for these brochures you speak of, why would we have brochures , you can do it all online and that’s how we have for years
It seems you’re bitter & Twisted that a driver who’s on the bottom of the agency ladder according to you still has work , maybe your not as good as you think you are , holidays , sick pay , gold plated pensions
Any way Post this thread up of where I posted a photo of a brochure from Benidorm up , I’m waiting ■■?

brochure photo ha ha

t

this one , must be ha ha

thread is embarrassing , bloody famine , there’s folks in this country who will struggle to be able to afford food , heat there houses , agency drivers will not , roaring there bloody eyes out about only getting 3 days , i only ever do 3 days & christ if you can’t live on that money you want to go & take a long hard look at yourself , your just greedy ■■■■■ who if your not getting your 6 days a week think everyone should fill sorry for you , no wonder agency drivers are hated
here you are for those feeling sorry for these poor agency drivers only getting 3 days a week , who apparently are going to go through famine this winter , ■■■■■■■ famine , what next
3 days , and there on about famines

That’s me done , I’m embarrassed to be associated with these bloody idiots , they’ve no shame , real people struggling to feed there kids , heat there houses , and they think getting 3 days is comparable to the pain lots of families are going through in this country , shameful , and I refuse to be associated with them , goodbye

Where do you live, I might move?

I have had a slowish September (although I was away for 10 days), and very slow October and so far this month had no work. Rang round all the agencies I have reg with on Friday, nothing, reapplied to a few last week heard nothing so far. I am near Manchester, Skermersdale and Deeside seem busy, but get stuck in traffic trying to get to Skem

Looking at going back into IT.

This time last year agancies were ringing me up offering £2000 if I sign up, I told them fine but DVLA have not renewed my HGV yet, they said they were not interested.

He lives in Grantham (supposedly) but he’s been exposed as a troll on more than one occasion on here so anything he says should be taken with a pinch of salt as he’s just on a wind up most of the time.

Judging by his rant he`s probably over excited after finally getting a steak dinner and a can of Lucozade to go with his manky orange.

Btw Dopey, I think youll find it wasnt me who did the reverse image search of your Benidorm images.

driveress:
Sorry to hear that Goff118. I expect that affects your plans to go driving part time that you were thinking about a few weeks ago. Being a newbie combined with my location makes things difficult for me anyway and my agency have said it’s quiet, but builders and plumbers are busy so I’m still getting van and 7.5t work. All the class 1&2 drivers who deliver to where I’ve been working lately are busy, so plenty of building going on. (Yes Carryfast, I do spend half my day in the warehouse)

Hey, hope you are well. My plan has slightly changed, in that I have decided to get through the next few months of crazy energy bills and inflation with the full-time job and then make a decision in the New Year.

Fair point - do you work with several agencies, or just the one?

Just the one, I’ve probably been with them 15-20yrs, but even though it slow atm, they keep me working enough to keep the bills paid and having a guaranteed 24hrs pay contract helps

Ah nice, I didn’t know there were such contracts available on agency work. That sounds perfect but as you say, as a new pass, I might have to take a few more risks if I’m to jump to part-time agency as my main employment.

There was around 10 of us who had these 24hr contracts, most of whom were long term employees with the agency, contracts carried over from agency taking over another agency etc etc. We were the ones who got furlough money during the 1st pandemic lockdown. Of those 10 there’s only 6 of them left. Anyone who starts now doesn’t get the 24hr guarantee, so you are unlikely to lucky enough to get one.
If I was you I’d stay put where you are and wait for the recession to end as it’s not a good time to start at the bottom of the ladder, especially IF you need a regular income to pay a mortgage, feed a young family etc

Yes, thanks for the advice.

i changed job after 25yrs at same firm as it changed so much in the last few yrs.just not same there and even though id been longer that most was over looked for a new motoer which they struggles to get from the main depot.
so went to a irish firm for 4 weeks but it was not what they said and u was working 13 to 15 hr shifts for £100 a day yes u got a nice big motor topline scania with microwave and firgde and frezzer.but money is main thing to me.rang a few places and found one through a m8 i worked with at other firm 5 min from home £13 a hour and work was same i did at the firm i worked for 25 yrs as they taken on the jobs they let go so know job well.
other week boss told us the recession is here now and is here to stay no matter what people say.hes told us no one will loose their job at all.ok one day u may do very little or be in yard or otehrsu maybe out on road earning.one week may be good otehr may be quiet but all got to take rough with smooth for now.but we will be payed min 50hrs no matter what.but if u leave for anotehr job being told its better money then find out few weeks later its not then do nto coem back as there will be no job for u.as he will not refill ur place at all.also told u may have od the odd weekend if needed on crane work which pays welll for it so thats not a problem for meas im single some say they can not due to family or what. boss says that ok but dont moan about others if they earn more because they do it and ur not getting any work in week or hell just tell u to pack up and go.
im happy with what i do now and know where we stand at end of day if u at a place thats keeping u working ok not as much but brings a wage in every week then id stay till things get better maybe a long slog but be worth it in end and can only get better.maye worth some of the agancy guys looking for permanent work now ifthey want a regular wage, but its not what everyone wants at end of day
