Can someone please help. I think it was Froggy, but I am not sure, who did his FCOS without his FIMO. I am trying to do the same but the training school say I need a letter of attestation before I can do the course. I have references etc. from before 1995 but who do I get the letter from? The ANPE said to see the trainer, he says to see ANPE! Keep going round in ever decreasing circles - I know it is the French way - but I have already lost one job because of this and don’t seem to be able to get any further.
Writing this in dispair
Rob.
Robert,
When I went to see about the FCOS I was told to get a letter from my previous employer stating that I was driving a truck for a specific time before 1995. I think the employer had to state that you had been driving for a least 2 years. It was simply a letter on headed paper to this end. I got the letter done but ultimately didn’t get FCOS as I worked briefly for a Marseille based company without it and that put me off working for French firms for good
At the time I got the info from the AFT IFTIM ; if you haven’t tried them that would be a good place to start. Try the pages jaunes for contact details.
Cheers,
Craig
Thanks for that Craig. Am going in to see training school again tomorrow. Unfortunately he already has a copy of that letter (in english and french). Hopefully he just overlooked it. Otherwise will have to try for an english firm running over here but nobody seems to run to this area - anyway don’t really want to do that. Would prefer to try the french system first, if they will let me, however beggars can’t be choosers so if anyone knows of a firm who could use a driver based in the south east I could be available!
As an update - went to training school today and spoke with the MAN! He had an interesting telephone conversation with someone - probably ministry - which involved a lot of shouting and ,dare I say it, swearing I think (my french isn’t that good but one day I’ll swear like that!). The conversation went along the lines of he’s 49, driven for 30 years and you want him to go back to flipping school but unfortunately the answer was YES! So now i have to go for an assessment on Monday and then FIMO a.s.a.p, Apparently the assestation d’equivalence for FIMO has been stopped and Everybody has to do Fimo - however chances are someone will correct me! We are in France after all and no 2 towns seem to do things the same way! So there you go that is the gospel according to Gap authorities and unless one of you can come up with chapter and verse otherwise thats me for the next few weeks.
Possible further updates to follow

Robert,
That is incredible news and as you say may differ elsewhere in France.
I can’t help you much other than to say that on Saturday I have been invited again to my old firm’s annual ‘repas’ and of course will meet all my old mates. I think it is doubtful whether anyone can shed a useful light on your situation as it applies only to foreign immigrants, but a couple of the blokes, union reps, have been very helpful to me in the past.
All I can do is ask.
Salut, David.
