Favourate journeys in a lorry UK

Every day driving round central London. Traffic can be crap but to see the majesty an history on display with buildings and statues etc. in summer with nice women in skimpy clothes is a bonus.

Mine was a run I done for many years carrying BL car spares for BRS, from Smethwick across to Shrewsbury then up the A5 to Llanfair p.g. and Llangefni Anglesey. On the return I did Colwyn bay, St Asaph, Wrexham and Whitchurch. Those were regular drops but quite often got to other jobs at Llandrindod wells, Barmouth, Caenarfon or Portmadoc which were always challenging places to go with an old Guy big j and 40’ spread axle !
Some memorable days took in the Llanberis and Horseshoe passes with some of the best scenery around.

Funnily enough, I did central London for Fresh Direct last night. Never driven “the sights” but walked them a lot. I did Regents Park, Islington, Canary Wharf (that was impressive), Leicester Square, Soho (a drop near a “desperate gentlemens club”) and had a break off Oxford St while my mate did the unloading.
Kev, it was nigh on freezing last night but the skimpy clotjes were still on display.

The drive over to Anglessey on the coast road was always good and the drive down to Redruth in the summer was nice too ,but the best was probably the A56 Deansgate on a scorching hot day in the summer when the traffic was slow for obvious reasons

A favourite for me was a simple week. Tip Mars Slough on a Sunday and load out of Purfleet for Peterhead. It started in the days before cab phones and even so, once you are loaded you are not going to lose the job until tipping Peterhead

spent missiles to HMS Gosport Stingray building at the gate cablight on running lights on mirrors under the truck then off to the seafront to watch the regatta isle o wight bacon toast in cafe, caught out on a bank holliday weekend at tilbury docks no room at the worlds end pub parked up on road with wild gypsy horses noddin there heads through the cab window eatin apples, skelly rigged off to Southend for weekend parked on seafront candyfloss icecream short skirts, then back up well trodden A1 to Newark cattle market overnight over the trent warm summers eve into town for a beer and a curry that was always a good gig ,happy days.

Summers days are great

I always preferred the springtime. Sat in a layby on the Malton-Pickering road having a bit of pack up breakfast and my flask of tea, window open, birds singing, I just looked to my right and there was the biggest barn owl you’ve ever seen, sat on a tree branch, 6 ft. from my right elbow…just sitting there watching me (or my breakfast). I’d never heard the bugga arrive on the branch, it just sat there, I finished a bit later, started the engine to leave and still the bugga never moved. It was a beautiful thing, a proper bird, in feathers.
Happy days.

Albert Sq is also a great spot Ramone, the number of vehicle bumps around the Town Hall Square caused by drivers watching the scantilly clad girls walking around is unbelievable, hope its a hot summer 2013!!!
