Fatal accident A19 last night

I have just watched this short clip about the accident on the A19 in County Durham.

It happened in thick fog, which was very thick.
In the clip you see a recovery truck leaving the scene, No lights on the towed BMW at all. :open_mouth:

One person was killed in a car trapped between two petrol tankers. :open_mouth:

This could have been a lot worse I’m sure you’ll agree.

I have looked at the clip, and you are right, this shows how lazy and unproffessional some recovery drivers are, although he has his beacon on the transit blocks the view from behind, and his rear lights are blocked by the BMW, he should of at LEAST put a light board on the BMW or switched the lights of the BMW on with rear fog lights on. very very dangerous.

Clip has just changed, but weren’t the reverse lights on on the Beemer? Seemed to be 2 white lights on at the rear.
Why was it dangerous? The road would have been closed,so nothing likely to run into it

I saw what could have been reversing lights but thought maybe it was just clear lenses reflecting the light.

Yes the road was closed but for how far  , just thought the recovery truck should be more visible.

Just looked at the new clip, the stobart driver looks to have had a lucky escape.

Can’t quite make out the name of the truck, catherine ---------- I think.

ouch :open_mouth: nasty one hope everyone else recovers ok

the stobart driver is very badly injured with ‘2 broken legs 2 broken arms collar bone when i left newark this morning he was still in coma’ taken off stobart forum

The driver of the renault didnt stand a chance between 2 HGV’s :open_mouth:

Poor bugger, but on a seperate note do you think the person who set up the BBC iplayer was a fan of spinal tap? check out the volume levels.

very very sad.stobart driver is a very lucky man.
its been a very foggy week in places, and the amount of car drivers with no lights on,in very dense fog was mind boggling.
condolancies to the dead persons family.

To think at how fatal it was is bad enough but imagine if the tankers had a popped open and caught fire (Presuming they were loaded with fuel)… That car had no chance in between them 2 tankers thats for sure.

They were loaded with fuel, one had diesel in the other petrol. One of them was leaking so they had to put a foam blanket down as a precaution but crews, with the help of the tanker drivers, soon realised the leak was from a short stretch of damaged pipe and amounted to only about 25 litres of fuel.

I send my heart out to poor driver that died now as for the Tanker drivers, we could not see 3 lines infront of us me and fellow driver were doing 30 down the 19 and were coming into peterlee north yesterday to load up from the same yard where stobarts driver came from. The 2 tankers were bombing it down the a19 as was everyone else i’m sorry but …

  1. Those drivers in the tankers should have known much better there professional drivers for god sake.

  2. The car drivers were as much to blame for the speeds they did… there was a nice convoy in the inside lane of us slow drivers most cars pulled out tried to over take but bottled it and pulled back in. We came off the junction before the accident and for those who drive the a19 we were lucky to not have joined the back of the accident as its only a few miles infront.

  3. Poor stobart driver he had just set off from peterlee north estate and a very very nice chap just entered the slip road at the wrong time.

I do hope those injured get better soon and peterlee hospital staff did well as it is only small and they had taken care of every person involved. ( I know because the bloke who loads us wife works there )

heart goes out to driver who lost there life…    hope all make a speedy and full recovery :exclamation: :exclamation:

hope the stobbie driver recovers - that cetainly is scary stuff especially with tankers involved :open_mouth:

It’s been revealed that the car driver who died was an off duty police officer. :frowning:

so anyone know how it happened

My sad thoughts to all involved :frowning:
