Fastest trucking route Hull to Dundee?

M62-A1-A66-M6-M74-M73-M80-M876-A977-M90-A90

That’s the fastest route if you get a good run.

Only downside to using the 66 and up that side is you miss the lass with the marvelous wobbly bits just north of Berwick!!!

Al give you that one jacksplat

Thanks all. Did the a66 m6 route in 7 hours 40, but due to forgetting my safety boots had to go via home which meant a1079 from hull to York then a59 to the a1m. Will clock the Berwick route home after my 9 off.

Depending on the time of day I used to go that way anyway

Does nobody use the A697 thought Wooler and on to the A68 these days, nice scenic route that cuts off the Berwick corner.

Bloody hard work! I’ve done it twice fully loaded and with a manual box and I was knackered by time I got to Newcastle!

You should try doing this route with a fully loaded ERF with a twin /splitter box fully loaded both ways 5 nights , !!! thats the way to separate the men from the boys !!! .

Never had the “joy” of using a twin splitter but remember my dad missing his gear on garrowby hill and having to start from scratch!

At that point in time 15/20 years back the company I worked for insisted that the A697 route be used in order to save on mileage because of the large movement of vehicles on this particular run , after a while you became used to this route

Yup, that’s the Jedburgh - Coldstream route.
15/20 years back, they were still building the Embra City Bypass and the A1 was single carraigeway almost all the way down to Newcastle. I don’t think Newcastle was straight round on the A1 bypass either. So at that time it would’ve been six n half a dozen. Probably slightly slower on the 68/697 compared to the A1, but as you say , shorter milage.
These days it’s 2:30 from Newbridge to Washington Services going A1, it’s a hell of a lot longer than that going 68/697. Slightly quicker than in your day maybe, but not by very much.

A1 for me, mite not be as quick as cutting across to the m6 but i personally cant stand the A66 and gives you a nice run on sc’s, if you dont like running at 50+ though probably isnt the best route.

In my humble opinion, the Twin Splitter box was/is just about the smoothest & easiest manual truck gearbox ever made. Not including the oldies like the fast-changing 6-speed AEC when fitted with the air operated inertia brake, or the 6-speed D. Brown which left you with five minutes between gears to decide which slot to put it in!

Anyway, if I was going to Dundee I wouldn’t start from Hull !

Sorry for the levity- I realise that this WAS a serious thread.

The title did say the FASTEST

I am with you on the Twin Splitter but that is for another 114 page thread

Imagine that- another 114 pages just for proper drivers!
