Volvo AB to merge Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks dealerships in some European countries by 2014
Published: 18.3.2013 04:09 - Swedish company Volvo AB will merge sales and service networks of its brands Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks in Europe within two years. Revision of both networks was launched in late 2012 in order to improve the service network density and quality of services to customers in different countries, Volvo AB said.

“In the previous structure of the Volvo Group in Europe there were two separate networks for Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks. In countries where both brands have a strong position in the market, this arrangement will be preserved. In markets where one or both brands do not have a sufficiently strong position, the Volvo Group sees an opportunity in their integration. This will bring customers advantages in the form of stronger networks and a broader range of products from a single point of sale,” the company mentioned.

The Volvo Group is a manufacturer of trucks, construction machinery, buses and heavy-duty diesel engines under the brands Volvo Trucks, Volvo Buses, Renault Trucks, UD Trucks (formerly Nissan Diesel Motor), Mack, Eicher, Volvo Penta, SDLG, Prevost and Nova Bus. The past decade was marked by major acquisitions and efforts to integrate newly acquired companies. The on-going reorganization is yet another step to improve the potential of the Volvo brand, the company said further.

Activities related to trucks represent almost two thirds of the total turnover of the Volvo Group. The aim is to develop a complete portfolio of the brands and service network. The Volvo Group sees great potential in the brand Renault Trucks, which plays a crucial role in the growth strategy of the group. Over the past five years, the Volvo Group has invested over EUR 2 billion in the activities of Renault Trucks, including product development and related operations. In June 2013, Renault Trucks will introduce brand new series, which will strengthen the brand’s position in the market.

The new structure of the Volvo Group Trucks aims to focus on the sale of trucks. The decision to merge or maintain separate networks was done for each country separately. Completely separate networks of both brands have been maintained in some countries; in other countries there will be a common network and in the rest there will be a combination of both.

Integration of the networks in North, Central and Eastern Europe will increase network density by 30-40% for Renault Trucks and 10% for Volvo Trucks. The process of reorganization of the service network will be fully completed within two years, the company said.

“This change will significantly increase the number of our points of contact with customers, for both Renault Trucks and Volvo Trucks, which will provide an enormous advantage for them,” Executive Vice President of Volvo Group Trucks for the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa), Peter Karlsten said.

Regardless of the new variant of arrangement, adopted for a specific country, separate Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks sales teams for each of the brands will also be kept.

New business arrangements of Volvo Group Trucks for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), comprising 18 countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, became operational on January 1, 2013.

In the Czech Republic, Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks were merged with effect from March 15, 2013. As a result, Czech headquarters of Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks were merged in one organization. Each of the brands has separate sales teams despite the merger.

The current general manager of Volvo Truck Czech, Robert Grozdanovski (46, photo) became director of Volvo Group Trucks Sales & Marketing in the Czech Republic on March 15.

“By making this change, we will increase the density of the service network in the Czech Republic and thus achieve a better quality of service to all customers. Currently, we are working hard on the integration, and I am convinced that in the coming months, we will have more information,” Grozdanovski said.

Volvo Trucks currently has 11 of its own dealerships in the Czech Republic. Renault Trucks has 16 places, two of which are its own and 14 belong to partners.

The question is, how much longer has the Renault brand got to run before ending up like ERF?

I can’t answer that one, but I do know first-hand that the Renault office staff are very much looking forward to getting their new company (Volvo) cars.

Renault SA (The car company that has nothing to do with Renault Trucks except sharing the same name) sold their stake in Volvo AB which owns Volvo Truck and Renault Truck
which is why new Company cars do not have to be Renault. Renault Trucks will continue to sell Renault Master vans built by Renault car side though.

Steve

I can’t see Renault ending production in the near future if ever.

They have a massive following in France and will continue to produce an ugly version of Volvo trucks.

It’s all Volvo underneath, but Emily Deschanel and Susanne Boyle are the same underneath.

Haha :grimacing:

Many a comment said in jest Mr DieselDave…

Hi Lusk,

I wasn’t kidding- … honestly.

I’ve done some work for Renault/BRS/Univar, so I know my info is good.

I’m doing an encore this coming Tue and Wed, so I’ll see if the new Volvos are there yet.

There are quite a lot of confusing posts on here. Renault Cars have very little to do with Volvo. They are however in a long standing relationship with Nissan Cars

Volvo Trucks and Volvo Cars are run as two totally separate companies although they do share headquarters in Volvo Group Warwick. The time to start worrying is when your lorry comes fitted with a Penta engine or SDLG road roller wheels.

Pimpdaddy:
Renault is a zb make…:exclamation:

I’ve had a couple in the past, very comfortable on a long drive. Their engines don’t enjoy a reputation for longevity though as I found out. Talkng about their cars.

I can’t see there not being a Renault trucks ,their home market /government wouldn’t allow them to die as we do…They may pull out of certain non profitable markets ,and amalgamate the Volvo /Renault products in others…

But the question is ,as time goes on will they do what happened with Daf /Foden ,Man /Erf , Iveco /Seddon…Where the only difference is a badge and colour of the upholstery ??As I said earlier I reckon Renault trucks will always be sold in france ,but will they survive in other markets

^^^^
Crikey, can you imagine the uproar from the French if they even contemplated stopping production there…the word strike comes to mind. Blooming militant lot :open_mouth: :grimacing:

I can’t see Renault becoming simply rebadged Volvos in the foreseeable future, both companies have just introduced completely new models, not just facelifts. And from what I’ve seen of the new Models they are separate trucks although they might share many components and these models seem to have around a 20 years life cycle.

Sharing back office functions is quite a common way for large holding companies to reduce costs, whilst still maintaining a separate indentity for different segments on the high street. One example would be Curry’s and PC World, although there is a lot of cross over with what they sell they still have separate stores.
