Do you do defensive driving courses or does anyone do them? Reckon it’d be a really valuable experience to put in a controlled situation where you can practice evasive manouvers and braking etc.
im currently doing a advanced driving course I’m my car called RoSPA and you take a test at the end , I beleave you can put these skills to use in a larger vichele…
I think iam do them as well , and there are ways to to both in lgv or bus primarily though employers.
Yes we do. The training is very much about defensive driving rather than the need for taking evasive action. One should outweigh the other!
We normally do this work under the heading of “refresher training”. Then when the candidate arrives and books in, we have a conversation to find out exactly what the aim of the session is. For some, it’s gaining confidence (sometimes with a different type of vehicle), for some it’s reversing, for others it may be the desire to achieve a higher standard of driving altogether.
I have been trained as a Senior SAFED Instructor and have passed this training on to the instruction team.
Hope this helps, Pete
I have never rated SAFED but if Peter has instructors that also have either IAM or ROSPA then you are onto a winner
Most LGV drivers are very close to advanced driving standards so it usually turns out that very little is to be gained - I know as I have observed loads of them either in their cars or in LGVs
