Do you know the best routes in and out of London from the north and the west to Europcar on York way (Kings Cross).
I’m fine getting in from the North; I do A1, A400, A5200 and under the “15 foot bridge” that’s actually 17 foot
, but reversing that route to go back north has some dodgy corners that I wouldn’t fancy taking loaded but is do-able empty.
Thanks.
We have drop off, York way, and go A1, archway, onto 7sisters then there’s a right turn, can’t remember street name, bear right, up slight hill, then a wide left on to York way,
Or go along euston road and round back of station up goods way? turning left onto York way, I think that’s how the rail and concrete trucks went in when kings Cross was being rebuilt.
I could be wrong.
Don’t hold me to this cos its donkeys years since i was on rentals, so check height and weight limits before you try, go all the way up York Way, cross Seven Sisters Rd, follow the road (have to nip round that one way section) ahead brings you out at Tufnel Park tube station, fork right straight up to the one way at the bottom of Archway Hill, i also used to nip down that way coming the other way to avoid Holloway Hateful road, i used to use that route with new London taxis into (i think it was) Copenhagen Street just off York Way.
I hated trying to get West from that side, Marylebone Road is just a nightmare.
I have an idea Europcar used to be in Caledonia St last time i went there, it was Kennings in York Way so i wonder if E have taken over their site?, bugger me this must be knocking on twenty years ago now, my last 8/10 on the cars i seldom touched renters, 95% new unregistered to dealers or stock transfers/export for JRL…idiot, its JLR

That’s the route in/out from the north I’ve been using. It’s that one way system coming out that’s the awkward bit. There’s a right turn that’s not so bad if you can split the lanes and not let a car shove in, but the left turn is very tight even when empty with traffic lights and other clutter just where you need to force the unit.
Europcar is on Randalls rd. Sadly Copenhagen steet has a 7.5t limit now and the trees will have grown back down there I reckon. Only other option looks to be wharfdale road with yet another cluttered up tight turn bringing you out onto Caledonian rd north. It looks like whichever way you go there’s going to be a few dodgy spots.
Reckon I’ve cracked it. Brewery Rd?.. was that where you delivered London taxis? On google maps street view there’s a transporter tipping black cabs on that road. No 7.5t limit I can see. Reckon that might be the solution to the awkward one way system.

Are you driving a wagon & drag… I feel your pain mate. It’s more than ten years ago
since I done transporters and I was cursed with an artic with peak overhang trying to
get around Central London and what a pig they are when there is a traffic light or other road clutter right where you need to turn! Lol
Must be easier now since most transporter artics have had their peak overhang cut off!
Your route is good, just will probably need to use both lanes at Tufnell Park when going left in & out, you can turn round at the cement works where the road forks at the bottom or if the top of Randall road is clear you may be able to do a u turn outside the Depot…
Cheers, think I’ll try brewery road next time. On google maps it looks better.
Yes i reckon the taxis did go into Brewery road, all look different on the map when you haven’t been there for a lot of years, but beware at the other end, as i recall the far end of Brewery road drops downhill to the junction so as you turn the road is levelling out, so make sure you’ve got enough room twixt truck and trailer to account for the closure.
By the way do i miss it do i buggery

The other week I was loading in the dark in the snow, straps all frozen, decks iced up, fingers frozen to the bone. You’d have loved it.
