I’m just reading a genuinely impressive book published by Nynehead Books called FODEN SPECIAL VEHICLES by Wobbe Reitsma. I’m learning lots of new things. Really good book! Robert

A Gardner 8 LW Perhaps, That would have been top of the list in those days I would think, Any ideas anyone ?, Regards Larry.
Similar vehicles in Harold Nancollis’s book are 8LW engined Larry, even the heavy duty eight legger tipper’s for Holland had the same engine.
Pete.
Saw a golden coloured 4000 (high roof) series in the middle lane of the M6 yesterday ( heading south near Stoke), Anyone know much about it ? Wasn’t sure if i was allowed to post pics and reg ? If i can i will post reg. A bit of any eye opener to see it!
Richard
I passed my test (1976) on one of those tilt cab Foden eight legger’s, it had the LX 150 engine fitted though. It had the four headlamp setup, a lot of blue plastic in the cab, and a hydraulic throttle that needed ‘pumping up’ every few miles! We tilted the cab every morning to dip the oil.
Pete.
the devil’s idea those hydraulic throttles along with the foden pedal that gave no purchase especially when your boots were wet . i dried mine at the end and fitted a small piece of angle to stop my foot slipping . i had super muscles in my right leg , and come to think of it in my left as well , the clutch return spring was a tad on the strong side . cheers , dave

I am just trying to stimulate a meaningful discussion you understand, but for “the hell of me” I cannot understand how anyone, hauliers in particular, can get a “double 'ard on” about Fodens, IMO their day was over with the end of steam and surely the dozy ■■■■■■■■ on the Foden Board should have had the “common” to realise this when Mr. Edwin R. Foden jacked in and went on his own to form ERF and IMO the ERF was always superior, absolutely no danger!! IMHO Fodens never had anything going for them and in their final 10 years or so they were an absolute ■■■■■■■ joke and were only kept in business by “dyed in the wool” operators who were blinkered to what was out there in the real world plus a few large orders from “money no object” Oil Companies! Lets face it the Foden engine was an unmitigated disaster which they insisted on prolonging the agony with and their ■■■■■■■ 12 speed gear box was another “lemon” and as far as their poxy cabs went, well they would have been more at home on a Fred Flintstones set in Hollywood.I realise I may have ruffled a few feathers but that is only my opinion, many others will agree with me and a few (very) will vehementally? disagree. But anyway I suppose the key boards of a few “Foden” men will now go into melt down, so bring it on! you haven’t a leg to stand on.Oh ■■■■ it! Dennis.
FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT
I think that 12 speed had you beat Dennis ,hence your dislike !
