Fagan and Whalley also CB radios newbie with questions

How do, just a quick question.

I’ve got my Class 2 test tomorrow (Wish me luck) and I’ve been chatting to Fagan and Whalley in the lead up and I’ve found out they take on new drivers, Just wondering if anyone has any experience in working for them? Ideally as a new driver, just so I can sneak a bit of insider information about what to expect

Sorry if my formatting is off or if there is an existing thread ect, new to forums :\

Cheers in advance

Also as an afterthought and because i dont want to fill the boards up with threads…

I have a rose tinted view of being a wagon driver, Mainly due to smokey and the bandit and a hgv coming through the back of my dads car when i was a kid, Do drivers still use CB radio’s and is it worth getting one for the giggle factor?

Thanks again

Best of luck pal. you and me both!

As for your formatting, you CLEARLY haven’t seen some of the crap on here!!! So no worries there pal…

Not sure about CB’s, but from comments on the main forum, you probably won’t know that the ■■■■ is being said unless you speak Polish. Probably a bit of a joke, but who knows…

Can’t help you with that company pal, as just a newbie to the industry myself.

Finally, I think you need to speak to someone “professionally” if being rear ended by a HGV, prompted you to become a HGV Driver! :open_mouth:

Enjoy and best of luck again!

bit late for that lol happened 20 years ago when i was 4 lol but yeah probably should have been done

CBs are 4 numptys/foreigners. I work 4 Fagans and it’s true they take on new drivers. Probably cos the wages are bottom end. I’ve had my class 1 for over 20 years and although the pay ain’t great they’re probably the best I’ve worked for. Good luck. Ur gonna need it lol

Cheers supercal nice one

Passed by the way with 7 minors  better than I was expecting after the drive up to the test centre. Probs gonna give Fagan a shout after my CPC mod 4, heard good things from a few people that work there, just wondered if i could gleam any more info on here

Excellent pal, you and me both!

If I wasn’t so shattered after a 4 hour drive home, I’d be bouncing off the walls!

Glad you have your foot in the door with Fagan and Whalley, from supercal1966’s comment, they sound perfect for a newbie!

Best of luck!

Padiham, I live 10 mins away from it, just sent off for my digi card and waiting for my licence to get back from sunny wales so i can send off to to get my mod 4 cpc

Fagans will put u thro cpc…at a cost. Padiham are on about 20p an hour less than coventry drivers.

I talked to them about it, they’d have put me through the periodic one but they can’t put me through the initial one for some reason.

Really? that surprises me as aPdiham is down on the website as the HQ of the firm, Guess it’s the north south divide or something.

Thanks for the info supercal, helps loads

Well done on both of you passing! and as for cpc mate you only have to do the case study if you haven’t done so already and the mod 4 the mod 4 is easy you will not struggle at all the only thing you will struggle with is taking that £285 out of your pocket to pay for it!

and the mod 4 the mod 4 is easy

I’m not saying ash is wrong, but don’t get complacent. I have a young family and didn’t get much prep in. Only really had some training before and a little at home that morning too.

It is easy, but I froze on my test. Got a mentle blank on the daily checks and nearly failed. Fortunately for me my examiner let me go back to question at the end and I remembered a few more bits. Annoyingly as soon as the test finished, I remembered a few things. Still passed with 85% mark (my lowest ever) but could easily have failed, especially with a different examiner. Just don’t be too complacent is all I’d say

Yeah I’ve done my Mod 4 before and failed, Got told I could take a check list in as a prompt for the checks, Horn, tacho, limiter, wheels ect. decided that because I could take a list I wouldn’t learn that but and focused on memorising everything else needed.

Passed everything I’d memorised with 100%. Came to the checks so I put my hand in my pocket to get my list. Couldn’t find my list. Lost my list on the 30 yard walk from the test centre to the vehicle, only remembered enough to score 10% not the required 15% failed the test with 90% overall, 10 about the required 80% to pass.

TL;DR my examiner said I was the only person he’d had to fail with a pass mark. fudging gutted.

On the plus side, managed to find a local firm that charges £187 for the mod 4. Lesson learned I’m gonna learn the lot!

Stay away from fagan and whalley, crapiest firm in the north west.
