f t a

has anybody got any views on the f t a wot they r and wot they do

they are a trade organisation, allegedly for the benefit of the transport industry, who take lots of your money for doing virtually bugger all

pretty much the sme as the RHA really :unamused:

waste of time like i thought just wanted it confirming thats all

Unlike the RHA, which is for third-party road hauliers, the FTA is predominantly for USERS of freight services. So many of the big own-accounts (like supermarkets etc) are members. Also they cover users of other freight modes (air, rail and water) too.

Sometimes they are actually opposite sides of the same coin: when RHA is trying to drive haulage rates up FTA will be trying to drive them down, because that’s what their respective members will benefit from.

Both organisations have their merits, but they are predominantly ‘bosses’ clubs’: the RHA does speak up from better roadside facilities for drivers though.

Just a brief look at the FTA website would of told the OP this. WHy he asked his original question i’ve no idea, its almost a dumb question.

Ha ha ha !!! All the infrastructure thats needed for freight gets put in place. Hence we have new rail terminals, distribution facilities, container/shipping port expansions, extra rail lines etc…this is what the FTA do,and the RHA speaks for what? Infact the RHA just passes on info of how to be ‘compliant’ with legislation and H+S issues. You can get the same sort of deal by just outsourcing this. BUt with the added benefit that if you outsource they will be responsible for it. The new roadside facilities we have through RHA lobbying speaks volumes as to where the two organisations stand if you look at their sway or achievements.

If you’re a smaller operator and were going to join one I would say the RHA is the pick of the two for both H&R and own account. Both seem run very much for the benefit of big operators and you might find more financial savings to be had on spending the subs on something like the FSB.
