Thats sad to hear, Mick Swain helped me out after I had a bad accident in 92, I also know a few more people who have received help from him when they were having problems.
Good luck to everyone from Swains.
Seems a shame, used to see loads of them when I went over that way.
Mad that a business earning 10million annually still can’t make any profit though.
i personally am not sorry to see them go
it is a shame for their drivers, but some/most of the office staff left a lot to be desired
i subbied for them just after i started as an O/D, when i left, it took me nearly 6 months to get some money owed for a job that i did, and i only got it because i had delivered a pallet to a company for storage after it had been refused by the original customer, they wanted to know where it was (4 months after i had took it there )
i used that pallet of goods as a bargaining tool to get the money owed as they were going to be charged for the goods and the storage if it was not returned to the original supplier.
i eventually got the money, they got the pallet location
wonder where all the cheap labours gone
It’s sad to hear of all those job losses & another firm biting the dust. I guess this is the problem when the bigger hauliers are cutting each others throats to take contracts. Logistics managers in companies like Lafarge & Unilever as in this case don’t care, all they think is they’ve achieved something by moving their goods today for less than it cost to move it yesterday & if someone comes in the back door offering to do it for less, the contract will be lost again. All the big fleets are at it, there’s only so much work out there so when one wins a contract, someone else has lost one. Cutting rates to win work is slowly turning us all into busy fools.

We had them in the firm we work out of doing the job for sod all to get them down country for another job all cheap labour in flip flops when we have to wear safety boots etc they just pull down rates really
They were flat out 5 year ago when they had Lafarge and Unilever washing powder in the north west. You’ve just got to be so careful when you’re on they up and watch for the down stroke. All those new Magnums…
Roy the boy from Birmingham has gone as well it says in the news section, we’re all doomed I tells ye. Unless you’re wearing Green.
roy has retires mate. i spoke to him last week. no one to pass the business to and like he said he will make more by selling the trucks now than run em and scrap em. i know where he is coming from i did it 6 years ago and its the best move i made.
Fair play to him, he’s made his money and now is the time to get out i’d say and enjoy his retirement without the stress and grief.

Apparently not - Currie has taken on about 50 trucks and trailers and some of the work, but the company definitely hasn’t been bought.

Or is it the case that Jigsaw Solutions are using whatever they can get their hands on to service their customers need?
Sister firms F Swain & Co (Holdings) and Sibley Haulage are unaffected by the administration.
BDO F Swain
According to Currie’s fleet manager this afternoon, Currie’s have purchased, direct from the administrator, 33 trucks and 60 - 70 (I can’t remember the exact number) trailers. They have taken on SOME of the work, and 3 office staff at Warrington. At present, no drivers have been taken on, nor has Mick Swain.
Whether or not they plan to take any of the drivers, he didn’t say, but I would think that with 33 extra trucks, they will need more drivers pretty soon.
They will be up and running again in a few weeeks I bet. The perant company ( F. Swain Holdings) is unaffected according to the article.
