Clue 1 The “naughtyness” will become apparent when the answer is known.
Clue 2 I took this pic on a car/freight ferry on a scheduled sailing, so it’s not a trick “this is only a tourist boat” question. I was on this ferry with an artic.
Clue 3 It’s not in the UK.
Question #1 What is the name of the seaport?
Question #2 which country?

A1. The seaport is: Sassnitz
A2. The country is: the German Democratic Republic. (DDR)
Sassnitz is just about as far Nort-East as it’s possible to drive in Germany. Sassnitz is on the far side of Rügen island. (a bit like Anglesey)
The sea is: The Baltic Sea.
I was arriving from Trelleborg (Sweden.)
The naughtyness is that I took the pic in 1984 well before the Berlin wall came down, so I’d probably have ended up in digging salt in Siberia for rather a long time, if they’d caught me. It was during the Communist era, when photographing anything military was not the thing to do. There were military ships in the harbour, but I didn’t dare take any snaps any closer in than I was. As it was, I sneaked up on the very top of the boat near the funnel to take the pic. Didn’t we all do some daft things when we were younger?
Kyrenia - TRNC??

I agree that it’s blurred- sorry.
Also sorry, no it’s not Igoumenitsa. I have never been to Greece.
how about split i have a feeling its on that coastline
stephen:

'fraid not stephen. I have been to Split, but I didn’t arrive by boat.
Just to help a bit, it’s not that stretch of coastline.
The harbour is quite distinctive, because the boat had to dog-leg to get to the berth.
At least this one has run a bit longer than my last two

quite a few years ago now. i did some loads for rose spedition in rainham to sicily and went on the short hop ferry from reggio di calabria to messina the load was hazardous and it was a big problem with the ferry company each time i went they kept me there all day untill they decided to let me go so is this the naughty bit you refer to as i dont remember the dock that well because getting old does things to the memory…i have loads of photos from over the years but none of that dock but i do remember it was dear and the ferry was about the same stamp as the woolwich ferry .ps if not i give up

Hi stephen,
That’s a fair guess, but not correct I’m afraid.
I’ve done the (yes, very short) Reggio di Calabria to Messina crossing onto Sicily, and I remember Rose Spedition, but I never did anything for them. When I did Sicily, we were contracted to carry half a load of pre-fabricated footwalks and handrails etc from the UK for the big refinery at Milazzo. The other half of the load, usually a transformer, had to be collected in Hannover on the way.
A nice run over the Brenner followed by just about the longest straight-line run in Italy. Happy days.
It wasn’t far to drive once off the boat though.
I don’t know why, but we never backloaded from Sicily, my boss always reloaded us from Naples, usually for Germany. I seem to remember that Ferrymasters had plenty of work from Sicily back to the UK at that time.
I’ll put everyone out of their misery soon
Clue 3 wasn’t designed to through us into thinking it was a long way away when really it is closer to home and is the Isle of Man, Jersey or Guernsey?
On a process of elimination it certainly isn’t St Peter Port in Guernsey. I’m also sure it isn’t St Helier in Jersey. Isle of Man? don’t know about that.
Yeah, I’ve been into both of those on a ferry but it was years ago and I can’t really remember them that well.

You’re spot-on on your first two points, and I’ll also give you that it isn’t the Isle of Man.

No, there’s no trickery here. It certainly isn’t UK waters or Ulster/Eire.
Well come on then, tell us

Hi Semtex,
I did. It’s at the very top just under the photo.

Hi Semtex,
I wouldn’t have said “d’oh” it was easy to miss, probably because I edited the original post. I’d also changed the title as well, but if you didn’t see it first time around then there’s no reason you would have known. I did leave this one running for a few weeks though…
BTW, would you have known the answer? (I didn’t see another Brit at any time when I did this route.)
No way would I have known, only been driving 3 years and never out of the country (apart from a couple of trips to Paris when I was coaching)
Semtex:
coaching
I’ve never done that. I’ve got D1 as a freebie, and used it a couple of times, but I never did proper PCV.
I couldn’t grasp the concept of freight that can talk.
