a question for the trainers probably
as you know i already have my c+e which i passed on an artic
i am now thinking about getting a day / half-day training on a W&D. The question is whether this can count towards my periodic cpc?

Has to be a full 7 hours within a 24 hour period mate, and without being a trainer I’d guess yes!
How are you anyway mate■■?
Yes it can - provided your trainer has it approved as a cpc course. But, as already said, it has to be at least 7 hours (excluding any breaks). I doubt if any reasonably competent driver needs that amount of time to convert from artic to w+d. I think it would be boring after an hour or two.
Probably a better bet to save loads of money on the extra training and complete your cpc at a much lower cost.

Same as all the other CPC days then

cheers mate, i am not too bad at all, thanks. as you see started thinking about those 35 hours what about you?
That cant happen as each part would have to be approved separately for 3 1/2 hours.
Sorry

Pete, for my understanding - what does that mean?
Many courses are approved to run for 7 hours. But some are termed “modular” and these are approved for 3 1/2 hrs but are coupled together in pairs to make 7 hours. Nothing below 7 hours can be uploaded onto the system for credit to the driver.
In our case, the practical driving cpc is approved at 7 hours as are our other courses. It’s possible you could find a match that you are looking for if you put the legwork in to find it.
But, in any case, 7 hours to convert to a drawbar??

How many hours/days are you looking to get/fill mate, as it’s going to be ■■■■ pricey way of doing it…
And I thought you were only driving part time?
Do you have a W+D job coming up, or are you being a perfectionist?
Me, I’d just get in it and have a crack!
I’m doing OK, just taking a bit of time off at present from my normal gig, to hunt around for something a bit more local…
So good as i’m mainly chilling and relaxing!

hey mate, i am thinking of getting probably just 7 hours this year, as i don’t want to leave things until the last minute.
yeah, i am a part-timer, just want to make sure i am capable of driving W&D. The things that worries me is the coupling - the slot seems to be quite small, i have watched some videos and it seems that there are some things that might catch you if you have never done / been shown that before. local tnuk gurus might correct me though, happy to be educated on the subject.
hope you are enjoying your time off mate, good luck with hunting

I have driven both the coupling is not hard on a W&D tbh so stop worrying
cheers animal

Common issues when coupling a drawbar trailer:
Forgetting to raise the pin on the coupling before attempting to couple up
If it doesn’t couple immediately, the pin will fall as you pull forward (the 2 tugs) - you must reset it before trying again
Get as square as reasonably possible with the trailer. Constant checks of the mirrors will sort this.
Get out and check as you’re getting closer to it. This is for height and lateral accuracy.
IMO this is the only difference between artic and w+d that is slightly more difficult on w+d. But practice, and patience, makes perfect.
