Personally I’m in favour of the DCPC. Certain subjects on this forum show that training is indeed required, even for experienced drivers.
What I don’t agree with is the way it is handled. At the moment it is plain and simple a money making scheme.
The fact you can do the same course 5 times just makes a mockery of the system.
I’m also convinced that even after Brexit the DCPC will still be in place as it makes too much money for the gov so what incentives do they have to scrap it?

In his current position, Jacob Reek-Mudd is going to be in charge of the refurbishment of the Houses of Parliament. He has insisted that all measurements are done in Imperial. I do not know a single builder who works in anything other than mm. It should be fun.
could it possibly be anything to do with the fact it was built in feet and inches? Nowt to do with the B word, more to do with standardisation. But I stand to be corrected. Regards Kev.
All timber used will have to be cut from imperial, rather than metric trees, and stone from imperial, not metric quarries. Paint can only be supplied in pint or gallon tins, not litres.
And never fill a classic British car from a “litre” fuel pump, the “gallon” fuel tank will be the wrong shape and size!

How do those offering DCPC training know people are refusing to book a course because of Brexit? If I wasn’t going to book a course I just wouldn’t call the training company in the first place, especially to tell them why I wasn’t doing it.
Because any training company worth its salt will be calling companies and individuals that it trained last time around to book new courses ahead of the deadline. So they know why people were refusing to book courses early (when it was cheaper and there was a greater choice of courses and dates).

Nowhere in the article does it say that they’ve been told by former customers the reason for delaying is Brexit, some have assumed that, I spread my DCPC over the 5 years and used various companies, none of which called me about completion, including one mentioned in the article.
I know of many drivers who have only just completed training, none of them were waiting for it to be cancelled, its just human nature to procrastinate when you have to pay money and take time off to do something you’d rather not.
Only the DVSA saying they are finding increasing number of driver saying they haven’t got it because they won’t need it after Brexit, but what are the numbers?
It could be an increase of 1 driver a week to 2.
Ah c’mon Muckles, you should know by now that remainers are getting increasingly desperate to spread their end of the world message at any bloody opportunity. I’m increasingly and in equal measures amused and irritated by their antics as D day approaches.

My picking him up in his statement had nothing to do with my view of Brexit, I would and have argued the same points when those on the Leave side come out with wild generalisations they can’t substantiate,
Having read some threads on here I’m sure there are some drivers who actually haven’t done a DCPC because they believe it will be scrapped, but I doubt it represents anymore than a small minority that haven’t bothered renewing it.

They don’t. GasGas’s statement was just yet more “Project Fear” nonsense, and a complete and total fabrication.
I havent completed mine yet because it wasnt worth doing the first time and if the one Ive done this far is anything to go by it hasnt improved.
I’m fortunate enough that its not my main employment but before you mock, people are needed to fill the gaps at weekends etc and what I do I’m pretty good at - I have a lot of experience ( 27 years on and off) and I dont leave a trail of destruction and anger in my wake.
I’m of the view that for those who ve already done it surely an assessment/test should suffice with courses for those who fail.

Should have gone to Specsavers!
The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has told Transport Operator that, despite high compliance rates, its roadside enforcement officers are increasingly encountering drivers who believe that Driver CPC will not be required when the UK leaves the EU. “This is wrong, and DVSA would encourage all professional drivers to make sure that they continue to hold a valid driver qualification card (DQC),” said the agency. Meanwhile, Kevin Allen, managing director of Driver Link Training in Wigan, blames the Brexit effect for causing a trough in training demand five years ago, which has been followed by an inevitable spike. “I remember five years ago when everyone thought DCPC wouldn’t stay; now it’s happening again,” he said. “Something that is proven to increase road safety and generates the government money will stay.” He reports that every Saturday training slot he offered to September has been booked up since May.

You stated “lots of gullible people weren’t doing because they believed it would be scrapped after Brexit”
The DVSA say there is a high compliance rate at roadside checks, surely if lots weren’t doing it and still driving there wouldn’t be a high compliance rate.
They also say there has been an increase in those who believe it will be scrapped, but don’t state how many that are stopped without a DCPC sat this or what the increase is (I have already said this in my previous post)
what is the increase 1000 to 2000 a week or 1 to 2 a week?
Because they were stopping people while the cards awarded in the last training cycle were still live, and those people were saying that they weren’t taking part in the current training cycle because they thought DCPC would be done away with.
So they had cards that were then current, but didn’t think they would need to renew them ‘because of Brexit.’

Is that so hard to understand?
It still doesn’t say how many, just an increase, not your sweeping statement of lots, that’s what I’ve taken issue with, I know a lot of Truck drivers who are fanatical Brexiteer, although they’d like the DCPC scrapped, not one believes it will be. I think that’s generally the same attitude on here, maybe one or 2 believe it, but the rest are resigned to the fact its here to stay.

You wouldn’t care to explain how a referendum held in 2016 affected training demand between 2012 and 2014, would you?

I doubt DVSA would have taken the trouble to speak about the issue unless it was being frequently raised by drivers at the roadside.
Much of the last five-year training cycle (ending this summer) was conducted during or after the referendum.
So let me make sure I’ve got this right.
There was a trough in demand in 2014 followed by an “inevitable spike” in 2019.
So the people creating the inevitable spike in 2019 haven’t been driving trucks for the last five years then?
Do you think that possibly- just possibly- the trough in demand in 2014 may have been caused by the fact that nearly all of us sat the initial DCPC in 2012 so we didn’t need DCPC training in 2014?
So not an article which claims that the DCPC was going to be scrapped after Brexit then?
Interestingly On the GOV website It says after Brexit your cpc must be taken in the country you are employed … they won’t be able to enforce this across Europe but in the Uk it will mean British reg truck driver must have done his CPC here
Info on DCPC, permits, etc. and links to other .gov stuff.
Better from there than elsewhere, even if it does say:
“Journeys from 1 January 2020 if there’s a no-deal Brexit
Check back for updates about how international road haulage permits will work from January 2020.” as so much is still unknown.
It’s worth mentioning that DCPC training varies massively from one trainer to the next and from one centre to the next. There isn’t an official set programme of what should be covered and there isn’t much (if any) in the way of standardization of Trainer “quality”.
Like most folk on these boards, I’ve done two sets of 35 hours since DCPC came into force; some have been “death by powerpoint” with a numpty trainer committing the unforgivable sin of simply reading from the slides to the whole group, the whole day seemed to last forever. Others have been reasonably entertaining and informative with a decent trainer who involved the group, left out the most tedious points and focussed on the really important “must know” information.
I’ve yet to see anyone on these boards asking for recommendations for DCPC centres that were found to better than others. And there are still some places where people have simply paid for the course and got their hours uploaded without actually attending…
