Experiments with add blue

Thought I would try a few experiments with add blue.

Got a few litres and have put some into jars.Stuck steel, aluminium, copper, brass, rubber and plastic in them to see if there is any reaction with the liquid.

Also made up some 3X strength and put the same materials in it.

So far after 48 hours nothing even the “O” ring has not shown any ill effects.

Will leave it in for a couple of weeks.

But if you boil off the water the Urea crystals are like bloody concrete and even boiling water takes a while to dissolve it.

Sounds like you have a lot of time on your hands, fancy painting my kitchen?

Lol

Have you made pretty crystal ‘things’ by dripping it onto dry concrete? They are beautiful.

No I can usualy manage to get the nozzle into the tank by myself.
does that help me get my cpc?

I don’t think that Scanias use AdBlue.

I’m missing out on all the fun.

I don’t understand the adblue thing with scanias. Ive seen 10 plate R420s with ad blue tanks on them, but none of the 12 plate g400s or r440s at our depot have them?

Yeah same I heard they don’t have adblue but then I seen some with it and I was like waat.

scanias use ad blue or egr that is why you see some with tanks and some without

Whenever I fill ly DEF (Adblue) tank I wonder what the hell companies are going to do if there suddenly becomes a shortage of this substance ? The industry always relied on the fuel supplies but now we have another liquid that is essential to the running of trucks.
My truck has warnings everywhere saying that if the tank level drops to below 1/4 the engine derates and a top speed of 50mph will come into play, next stage is the ‘RED’ level and the truck then has a max of 20mph for a few miles, then it will drop to 5mph, then I assume just stop. If the supplies of this animal pee run out half the transport industry will grind to a halt.
We had regeneration systems on the trucks for about a year before DEF came into the system and they worked ok so why did they have to come up with this extra liquid expence when systems to burn off particulates worked fine without it ?

On the subject of experimenting with it … If you keep it in jars etc it will remain in liquid form, it is only whe you just leave a very thin layer on a surface so when it evaporates or dries the residue will crystalize and cause corrosion etc/

All our new 13 plate 440s have an adbluetank :unamused: I am not fond of it....Shame they didnt put a guage on the dash! You have to go into the computer thingy to get the level :unamused:
These new Scanias also have LEDs and clear headlight covers now…They look alright.

Because they got crappy EGR instead.

You watch toooo much youtube man.No they will not drop to 20 mph if you run out of add blue and the test is to see if,as all the steering wheel jockeys on here are saying that add blue is corrosive, which apparently is as usual with drivers a load of bollox.

Alright, thicko question time, what’s EGR? I’m guessing some sort of exhaust valve? Is that why when sometimes when you’re climbing a steep hill or in traffic the dash comes up on with exhaust emissions high warning?

Think some scanias use adblue so they can get classed as an EEV. Same as MANs.

EGR is exhaust gas recirculation
SCR is selective catalytic reduction i think

Egr is a crap valve from the exhaust pipe to the inlet manifold that pumps exhaust gas into the combustion chambers to reduce the cylinder teperature.

Euro 6 engines have both add blue and egr. A right load of crap.
