I’m on my 2nd S-MAX, excellent for 5 but has a pair of pop up seats in the boot at the expense of bootspace. Probably not the best for every day use as a 6/7 seater but otherwise excellent.
Drives like a normal car, swallows massive bits of furniture, bikes etc with the seats folded away.

My daughter has the Vauxhall Zafria ( sp ) has 7 seats but they can be rearranged if you wish boot space quite good they are happy with it
Although they did have a prob with it not long after bought but was put right by garage runs fine not & they are happy with it
They are prone to problems.
Ken.
FTFY
The problem was someone had by-passed a electrical problem ( patched it ) which in turn coused another prob but after being away all sorted now runs fine he happy with it
Ive got a 7 seat V70 and a Scenic. Scenic is a well thought out car for a family. We have the smaller body which still has a massive boot. They do two bigger size scenics that have 7 seats as well.

Steer clear of anything Renault, especially with the DCi engine in, as they like to eat turbos, as I found out recently.
If you don’t mind something a little bit older, then howabout a Citroen Xsara Picasso,or it’s stablemate the Peugeot 807? Cheap to buy, but get one with the 2.0 HDi engine in, (Pre 55 plate) not the later 1.6 HDi engine.
Indeed, I sold my Scenic a year ago after a load of electrical problems, the clutch pulley went on the alternator which had to be removed from underneath the gearbox the de-phaser pulley failed, the dash display packed up (£500 from Renault) I fitted 9 coil packs in 5 years and the boot filled with water when it rained. all this on a well maintained low mileage car, never again.
The Picasso is a very good car, or anything Japanese. German cars are over priced and over rated and expensive to maintain and repair.
What about a ford galaxy zetec 1.8 with high mileage around 160k 2008 there’s a lot of them around
Anyone have one of these ,and whats the common faults at this mileage?
I’ve seen one in london it’s spotless inside and out but has 160k on it
Avoid anything which involves putting the kids in the back seat where the boot should be (ie the crumple zone). What about a VW caravelle? No idea on your budget though.
Budget is about 7k
The galaxy looks the part I think, big miles don’t bother me as long as the car is looked after history etc.
But this car only has history to 80k but seen plenty with over 250k?
