Exmouth area

Due to a family situation I may have to relocate to exmouth area. Is there much temp work that way for class 1

Nice area not much about though, there is an industrial estate on the road to Exeter with some companies on it but can’t remember what ones although thinking about it I’m sure one’s a parcel company. But realistically you’ll be commuting to Exeter for work which actually isn’t that far away and you also have Gregory at Cullompton and several firms at Newton Abbott on Heathfield Ind Est.

HTH a little.

Sent you a PM

Have also PM’d you.

Thanks for replies guys

Fair amount of companies based at Woodbury (Greendale) business park, e.g. UK Mail, DHL Freight, FedEx.
Also nearby is Hill Barton Business Park. Backline agency is based there (Tesco, Iceland, B&Q, Travis Perkins etc).

If you are tramping all week then Westfield transport in Cornwall may be an option.
Drive down sunday night for an early start monday morning and kip in the cab.
Further up the M5 is RT Keedwell transport at Highbridge near Bridgwater Somerset.
Away all week as well.
As said Gregorys, they are a good firm to work for.
Armoric international Plymouth.?

hi, I live in Topsham and have only just learnt that gardeners of Plymouth have a depot in Exeter at Stuarts yard? Try Evans at Peamore

Armoric. That seems to be dead mans shoes

My mate Steve works at Evans. They took him on as a newbie a week after passing his test. He rates it! :sunglasses:

Just to say westfields are recruiting at moment for class 1 of all stuff e.g. haulage and bulk tippers for tramping etc so worth a try. Also as others have said R T Keedwell are also after drivers so give them a call the guy there will get you straight in if you have all qualifications etc they are in Highbridge I think. You also have Kays (gregorys) and Gardeners in Plymouth oh and evans in exeter doing construction stuff (blocks etc). Good luck

It certainly used to be, but they’ve have had 4 or 5 drivers leave within the last 3 months.
Maybe worth a call.

Still is dead mans shoes as lots of people on hold waiting to get a chance to join them so positions go quick if they come up.

I stand corrected.
If it’s not a stupid question, what’s so special about working for them that they have a waiting list of drivers trying to get a job there?
It seems most hauliers in the West Country are short of drivers at the moment.

Always see Amoric motors in our place at Nuneaton. I know zero about the Co itself with regards to wages, conditions etc, but the Co appeals to me on the basis that the tackle is always in excellent condition, is very eye catching and strikes me as being a proper transport operation and a nice antidote to the faceless multinational logistics Co’s we see everywhere.

They do appeal to me, not quite enough to relocate however!

Regarding Armoric, the founding owner and boss Marc Payne must be one of the most highly respected individuals in the business, a man who can hold about 3 conversations at once in separate languages, totally hands on character. Havn’t worked for him in over 20 years but hear nowts changed. Maybe that explains the driver waiting list?

I see loads of Pearson’s and Hottot tippers running in and out of the quarries between Exmouth and Ottery. I think Pearson’s have a yard out that way too.

As others have said Marc Payne is a top manager and looks after his drivers as much as he can. Trucks are always top notch and well looked after. Do alot of time away but get good money to do the job they are entrusted to do and look after the kit they get. Nice trucks and decent money plus decent management hence the waiting list. As for South West companies there is a fair amount about but money very up and down as I said earlier Westfields are defo recruiting just keep an eye out on jobs indeed app / website as quite a few on there too. Best of luck in your venture matey.

I think you may mean Parsons!

Yes they have a yard at Aylesbeare and I do know they’re looking for more drivers as they’ve got a new contract on the tippers.
