Hi folks
I have recently taken the Hazard Perception test (81/100) and the LGV theory test (98/100) and am wanting to take the CPC theory test (i.e. the case study test), before starting practical lessons in preparation for the practical tests. Some of the schools I have been looking at recommend getting all of the theory tests done before starting driving lessons.
However, I have been told by Pearsons that I am apparently exempt from taking the CPC case studies test. He told me that I would be able to take the practical test and also, that before qualifying as CPC, would have to take 35 hours training as well, before being able to drive professionally. He did not know why I am exempt, but he thought it might be due to me having a full car license prior to 1997.
When attempting to book the CPC practical demonstration test on the DVSA booking website, I am blocked from doing so … because I do not have a CPC theory test certificate number.
The DVSA website clearly states that gaining the CPC case studies test is a pre-requisite for taking the practical test, just as the core theory test is required before taking the LGV driving ability test. It also states that you can take the LGV driving test and the CPC practical test in any order.
There is no mention on the website, or in any of the DVSA training books, of exemption from the CPC theory/case study test requirement on grounds of driving qualifications gained prior to 1997. There is also no mention of a requirement to undertake 35 hours training for gaining the initial CPC. If it is true that this is in fact required then it at least doubles the cost and time of getting initial LGV/CPC qualification.
All this information has come from Pearson, who claim that it is what they have been told by the DVSA, who conveniently enough only take calls on the subject between 0800 and 1200. After 30 plus minutes of being on hold listening to recorded cack, I had to get on with other things, so I will try again tomorrow.
Has anyone else had this issue ?
