Excuse the stupid question

But can you drive the unit for a class 1 lorry on a class 2 licence, just the unit not with the trailer :unamused: :unamused:

Yes you can. Since the change to c and c+e it is classed as a rigid due to design weights etc.

is it not about time for someone to be posting that you can only drive it with the 5th wheel removed or covered up? that’s the way this question thread usually goes…

Thanks for clearing it up

On a related note, I’ve never looked up the weight of a class 1 unit. Are they under 7.5T, will they vary and possible straddle this limit, or are they all well over?

There may be a few smaller units around whose /unladen/ weight is under 7.5T it’s gross weight (or “maximum authorised mass” that counts for driving licence purpises and most weight restrictions.
