Examiners, Instructors, or is it me?

Yes your right Paul it did come across as a bit arrogant. There is no way I blame any one else for failing tests. If you had read other posts I have made on this site I have stated that I wound myself up to fail, which I did. It does not change the fact that some of the examiners have a very unproffesional atitude.

Tallow:
Doing 1 of 3 routes 4 times a day every week in the same area must be soul destroying…

The examiner has to have a good knowledge of the test routes that he may use so that he can allocate the correct amount of concentration on your driving as opposed to trying to make sure he knows where he is going.

I sometimes have to use a different area for driver training and it is much harder trying to concentrate on your ‘new’ surroundings and on your student.

In their (examiners) position, I wouldn’t want to be sent to different areas all the time; i’d rather use the routes I knew best.

Paul

I take your point about the test standard being low.

No offence to those with dyslexia, but it must be if illiterates are allowed to attempt it. I’ve come across 2 Class 2 holders who can’t read or write… that’s pretty scary to me and if DSA examiners are rightly tightening up the pass rate due to the volume of traffic on the roads and the recent spate of serious crashes concerning HGV drivers, maybe they should consider re-testing all professionals every 5 years as is done with the medical for over 45’s.

There are hundreds with full tickets from the old school pre '95 years who’ve since become complacent and deadly, as of course, are there are amongst the rest of us.

Are DSA approved instructors tested or monitored for competency? Judging by the rates charged they ought to be. Someone who’s been instructing for 20 years may look good on record but it doesn’t mean he or she is perfect.

Wannabe’s are being screwed financially.

Tallow,

As a DSA registered instructor I am ‘assessed’ for my abilities and competancy every 4 years. If my standards drop below the quality line then I will be struck off the DSA (voluntary) register and consequently not be qualified for my job.*

*Being DAS approved is a pre-requisite of our driving instructors.

I can understand your dissapointments but please don’t tar all of us with the same brush. :unamused:

tallow,
i agree the costs involved to get a class1 license in the country are ridiculouse, wether the pass rates are being tightened up or not i don’t know, i do know i see foreign drivers on uk roads everyday that wouldn’t have a prayer of passing a uk test, but thats another story.
you just got to stick at it, maybe a test at the next nearest test center would be the best bet.

Sorry marcustandy

No, I know you’re not all like that, I should have done more homework and not have imagined that getting a class 1 licence was just a formality after acheiving class 2. I have been awakened… :sunglasses:

Oops, I’m being arrogant now. I take that back but I won’t be surprised if this happens anyway in the future. They’re already talking about it for car drivers :frowning:

A weeks course and test was 300quid for me. I had a good examiner on my test. Thing is I had his boss in the cab on the day of the test too. He told me to just ignore him as he was doing an assessment on the examiner!!!

I was ■■■■■■■■ myself but still passed 1st time thank god. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else at all. I suppose the assessor has to make sure the examiner is doing his job properley.

UK 1984

WHAT IS A FULL COURSE AND TEST NOW. MUST BE GETTING ON FOR A GRAND?? :open_mouth:

Its about a grand yes. In London they have or used to have a scheme though driving amition agency who used to recruit though the jobcenter and if you was 6 months unemployed you could get your class 1 for free. Then you read the small print which is that you have to work with an employer they set you up with for FREE WITHOUT PAY FOR 6 MONTHS :open_mouth: to gain HGV training points towards your lessons. So i thought ■■■■■■■■ to that and paid for it though my credit card lol

When i passed my car test 1st time i thought i was the dogs bolls…My mate failed 3 times and passed on his 4th. I had two rear end accidents within a couple of weeks of each other and my mate still hasn’t had an accident. As i was so cocky about being a 1st time passer I would quite often have people turn round to me and say that the people who fail once twice or more end up being better drivers. I passed my class2 and my class 1 first time too. But i have never forgotten that its not how quickly or well you pass your test just so long as you do it. And remember that passing is only the 1st stage of learning out of the way from then on the lessons get a lot harder in the real world of driving
