last night i did my bit for the olympics ,
42 tonne of flooring for a field in weymouth for all the coaches and cars to park for the events being held there so they dont end up stuck in the mud having to be towed out !
got a call to go up to a company called terra firma roadways up in steventon oxon, my truck was to be loaded 2nd and another guy nearly loaded before me , handing in licence etc to be photocopied and one of other drivers came in holding susies well the trailer got an indicator out and its not the bulb and not susies cant find the fault, yep my trailer so after teasing me that he would check my lights and honest they were working when I left! the mechanic came out and finally found the problem in a nest of wires at back of lights the wire was broken so fixed that , and if i do say so myself did a very good job of holding the light for him
so to be loaded and learned a lot about were the straps need to be and the fitters had made a brill little tool bit like a t bar to hook into ratchet and give a bit of leverage to us weaklings so i could get me guitar twang on the straps happy days .
so off I set my address was a field off the a31 turn left off rbt into rd with the sign for no hgv`s and field down on left
Well hit the roads for 1730ish and of course the m3 crawling along so exhaust brake was used to the max , ive never driven anything that felt so unstable and pushed me along , was definatly driving this veh not just pointing in a direction with foot to floor , if it started to get over 52 mph i felt like it was gonna tip over , so kept speed down and anticipated as much as you can drivers slowing down and made sure kept a good distance from veh in front , was that heavy that even going up the slightest hill the veh was only managing tops 30 mph so appologies to anyone stuck behind a yellow renault with skelly trailer full of flooring last night I did my best lol.
Found the delivery no probs couldnt believe it pulled up , straps off , rolled up and stored back neatly in my cupboard of course it was hammering down with rain so absolutly soaked but u know what didnt care , load tipped and then flicked the switch on trailer reversed back to shorten by six foot and then pulled round and one of the other veh was in my way to get out so had to reverse , well thought sod it if it take a time it takes time , and that reverse was the sweetest ive ever done the trailer went were i wanted pulled out and the smile on my face was the broadest you have ever seen , i felt great ,
obviously the trip home was a little faster and with the shorter trailer and as was a skelly could see loads behind me I got back feeling like a proper bendy driver absolutly loved it , parked up and locked up yard and was still smiling as i got into bed last night, !!!
