Ever seen owt like this on the road?

Got stuck behind this earlier today - when it stopped, I just HAD to get a pic or two!

The engine is a single cylinder air-cooled diesel built by MAM in Spain. Obviously it’s a tar sprayer, but I THINK it is POSSIBLY quite old!!

Steve

before i read the accompanying text my first impression was that it could be harry’s car .

Looks quite a luxurious vehicle Steve, suspension seat, twin fuel filters, power steering, servo assisted brakes, it’s even got a safety guard on the front of the engine, why don’t you offer the owner a few quid for it & get it on next year’s Gravel Run, Harry & Archie would love it. If he wont sell it you could always ask him for a job

I bet Rastone sold it to it’s first owner in his days at Universal, (just kidding Tony)

Good idea, Rob - they would really love that, but I would have to drive it home; just over 1,400 miles at 20mph at best - and it aint got a sleeper cab!

Steve

Now perhaps all those who complain about the aircon not working or there is dust on the dash should drive this for a week. There are drivers and then there are drivers … [emoji2]

Had another thought.Perhaps it was Walter Salt’s office

Now then, Tony - naughty, naughty! (where’s the yellow stripe?) And yes, Doug would have LOVED to get his hands on it!

Steve

Piantwork not prepared properly and nobody wanted to Know where it came from so easy to get off.

Ask that young Mr Wakefield.I bet he wishes he’d still got it.He could let Gavin have the use of it when he’s on night runs !!!

Paintwork is always well prepared at Longford Tony, which is a marked improvement on spelling at Doveridge (Piantwork) indeed, read your last post, What did that school report say “Tony has a tendency to let his mind wander in class, a very practical person who could probably sell things to people they didn’t realise they wanted to buy, he must try harder, 9 out of 10”

Gavin’s school report on the other hand read something like this "Gavin has attended this school once I think, but we don’t tend to see him on a regular basis, his favourite subject seems to be truant.

Back to the vehicle in question, Gav would quite like it I think, it something like he took his driving test in, he actually took his test in Walter’s O type Bedford coal lorry, so he tells me, and any one else who will listen.

That would explain why Gavin is a nice steady driver then and not a teararse like some of the Clydesdale/Reiver pilots that drove for a certain Longford based squadron a few years ago! Oh and yes, he has told me about the Bedford once or twice!

Pete.

I wasn’t that good at skool but I remember the cattle trucks going past to the cattle market which was on the main road to Stone as the classroom was by the road.A chap called Morley from Dalbury used to go by with calves and you could set your watch by him.I remember the lorry but not the leson

Dim Jim, Steve Allen, Duncan Cox, Arthur Salt, Sean Clarke, yes Pete your right, they all drove in a bit of a swift manner I suppose, I was the one who used to have to re-line their brakes.

I also remember skipping a few lessons to be educated in the ways of Gavin, never liked to miss an opportunity to ride shotgun in a Leyland Clydesdale, I probably learnt more relevant stuff there than at school, like map reading, customer liaison (Gavin style) loading/unloading, sheeting & roping, tea drinking (Gavin’s favourite hobby) and last but not least, what to tell the teachers the next day (Taught by the Master)

I think I knew the calf dealer you referred to Tony, was it Joe Morley from Dalbury, I’ve heard my dad talk about him & I vaguely remember him having a bit of work done in the garage when I worked for Denis
