Ever ran someone over

i ran over a policemans radio a while ago and smashed it to smithereens.
i thought that was bad enough until it all kicked off because he had it in his pocket at the time.

in reality, ive never done it in the truck though i did reverse in a campervan in ostend red light area ( its tiny but worth finding) and smacked a girl who was directly behind me as i knocked her over and squashed the moped.
ive no idea how she got to be 1 foor from my rear bumper but these things happen.she wasnt really hurt though plod arrived with the usual interrogation.
i let the insurance deal with it till the court date arrived to be in brussels for crucifixion.
at that point it was a not known at this address and no more said.
i believe the warrant is still outstanding though ive had the treatment from the polite a few times truck related without any grief so who knows.
she wasnt greatly damaged and you would have bought the moped for 50 quid.
ive whacked a cpl of dogs and deer and the usual pigeons owls pheasants .i dont like seing them as roadkill though seeing some ■■■■■■■■ splattered down the town dont bother me for some reason.

On 4 February 2003 I hit a poor young girl aged 16 when I was driving a bus, she died at the scene.
it was not my fault and it was a life changing moment for me, I have suffered ptsd and depression due to this incident but I am alive unlike the poor girl and I will live my life to the fullest I can.
This has and will always affect me but I have learnt a lot about myself over the last 15 years since the accident.
It’s been a rollercoaster but with a fantastic wife and family I’m still here, and enjoying life.

Not me but one of our ex drivers about 8 year ago accidentally ran over and killed an old fella at a set of traffic lights in central London went over him with 28 tonne of steal on the back
He was in slow moving traffic and coming to some lights and stopped for a few seconds then set off again and heard 2 thuds and felt the truck go over something and then heard all the screams from everyone. The old fella had tragically started to walk across the road when the traffic stopped thinking the lights were at red, our driver never saw him ( trucks didn’t have the high level mirror up in the N/S corner of the windscreen in them days as they do now)
It wasn’t a nice sight, bloke was unrecognisable from the top due to 44tonne going over his chest and head, old bill came out and stright away sat in the drivers seat to see what he could see from that position and with the witnesses statements our driver was abolished from any blame. He went back to work back down the road the following week, me myself don’t know if I could’ve returned to the drivers seat as soon as that if at all after something as tragic and horrible like that happened to me and I hope I never will have to be in that position.

I can relate to your experience. It never leaves you, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. That said, we muddle on through.

Dr Damon:
No but nearly, in London many years ago taking a back double down a street with cars parked on both sides (30 mph limit) A cyclist came out from behind one of the parked cars without looking and somehow I managed to stop. (just) I was only doing about 20 mph luckily. Makes me cringe when I see the speed some travel down roads like these.

^^^^^^^^^^
its all down to speed.
if you had been doing 40 in a 30 like everyone else then you would have avoided the incident completely as you would have been well down the road past him when he came out.

Exactly this
Flat out everywhere and most of these ‘accidents’ can be avoided as you’ll be long gone…

Nope, can’t say I have…touch wood!

I’m so mentally challenged I can’t even make up a story so I’ll just be refreshingly honest :stuck_out_tongue:

I can also relate to what your saying Drift,I also had an experience in 2003,although I was in no way to blame (27 mph in a 40 mph zone) when something out of the ordinary happened, going down a road I had driven many times, changed my life forever, the moment will go to the grave with me,I have never ever spoke to anyone about it,not my Family, my doc ,friends nobody,…they obviously know about it,I just put it a box in my mind and comes out every so often, believe me in no no way do I feel sorry for myself. It the boy and his parents my heart go out to,when that date comes round every year, dispite being quite an outgoing person,I am always quite withdrawn and quite in thought.Like you I have a strong family around me and it make me appreciate what I have, and always give my kids a hug and kids whoever is heading the door out them or me,where as before I probably took that for granted. But we are here and life is for living pal.

Yes.

Delivering in Hull some years ago, and was waiting at a set of lights to turn left. Trailer was that new on the road that day, you could still smell the paint. Me being me at the time, had the unit in absolutely sparkling condition. The combination was a magazine front cover’s dream.

Anyhow. Lights changed, checked my nearside, set off, and proceeded to make my turn, when all of a sudden, I felt a bump and heard a very loud scream. Stopped suddenly and ran around the nearside, to see a woman on a pushbike stuck under my mid axle. (Which was up as I was virtually empty.) Then went into auto pilot and called the full emergency services on my phone who all promptly turned up and did what they had to do.

Once she was extracted, I was interviewed at the roadside under caution, and released. Went back to the truck, and another traffic cop was looking around the inside of the cab. I asked him what he was looking for, and he told me that they as part of the investigation, they were looking for signs that might have been a contributory factor, like mud on the pedals, heater too warm, radio too loud etc. He complimented me on the presentation of the truck, and left.

Now at this point, your going to ask why did she get flattened?

Well, when you consider she came up the inside, and to get to the front, (From which then she would have been in my blindspot.) had passed 3 indicators on her way on the combination, (Trailer, unit and wheelarch.) she was an absolute bloody idiot. She would have known that I was turning left. I had to live with that for nearly 18 months, before I found out that i wasn’t getting charged, and that was only due to the company H&S bod pestering Humberside police for a decision. I guess I would still be waiting now, some 15 years later.

Ken.
