Hi All
Started my shift last night ususal run from Banbury quick drop at Allied Bakeries West Brom then on to Avonmouth…so just got past Junc 3 S/B traffic very light indeed all of a sudden there was an almighty bang quickly looked in my o/s mirror to see a car impacted the rear of the trailer then spinning around coming to rest in the 3rd lane…I pulled over onto h/shoulder and phoned emergency services to explain what had happened then quickly got out and ran back to see if everyone was ok at this stage I had know idea of how many occupants were in the car or any injuries…another car had stopped to see if he could help and had seen what had happened…one other male was there and he turned out to be the driver of the car which had hit me he looked fine but was more concerned about moving his car I informed them I had called the emergency services and they are on there way…satisfied everyone was ok I went back up to see the extent of the damage to the trailer what a mess t/lift pushed into o/s trailer tyre mangled rear light cluster etc…got onto phone to work to explain what had happened…when the witness Darren came running back up to me to tell me the driver had tried to drive off in his car to which he had pulled out the keys from the ignition to stop him he then did a runner up the embankment and disappeared!!!..I phoned the police again to explain what had happened when another car clipped the car which was still in lane 3 started spinning towards myself and Darren to which we prompltly moved pretty sharpish luckily the driver regained control and stopped not far behind the trailer…keeping up so far lol…anyway eventually boys in blue arrive…take statements…the driver was found about 200 yds further down M/way so he was going to spend the night in custody they said drink/drugs…once everything had been sorted out everyone left leaving me to await recovery and new tyre a total of 8 hours spent on h/shoulder…as an observation I would say a good 75% of lorries that went past me did pull out into 2nd lane thanks guys…am hoping tonight will be back to its usual boring M/way miles.
good luck for the rest of your week,
I wasn’t down that way last night , but I am one of the truckers who do pullout into lane 2 for anything on the H.S.
Deffo beats a boring nights drive mate
Lucky you never got wiped out by the other car thank god, and im glad the rossers caught the muppit
I would suggest letting us know the lottery numbers.
Glad to see you kept calm and did everything by the book.
A great start to the week

I always try to get into lane 2 if something is on the shoulder.
