Can anyone tell me if there is still an exchange in the freight reception at Folkestone? And,do they still not charge commission?
Trying to work out the cheapest way to exchange euro’s to pounds sterling, and I was thinking that if I walk up from the passenger terminal to the freight reception and do it there commission free.
I want pounds sterling to spend or deposit in my UK bank at Christmas, but will be going over for a few days in November,so will do it then.
When Eurotunnel were running the Freight Drivers Club many years ago I used to make a fair bit of points on my card. You see I used to get my money transferred from Sweden to my UK account, then, draw £250 out of the ATM and change it into euro’s at the freight terminal.
Then they stopped the Drivers Club,so I applied for a Points Plus card, which you could use against passenger tickets. So,I still changed money at the freight terminal and then walked down to the passenger terminal to the Travelex desk and show them the receipt and ask them to put the points onto my card, which they did.
For years I never paid for any passenger travel on Eurotunnel.
That’s probably why they lost so much money, and stopped the Points Plus scheme
I found Harbour Shipping to be giving the best rates & if You are going out in need of Benelux vignette you can get it there to save standing in the queue on Norfolkline.
switchlogic:
Hasn’t the exchange closed in the freight office now? Sure I saw a sign saying it was no longer open last time I was there.
No, it’s still open but not 24/7 any more. When it is closed you can get money from the freight counter in sealed envelopes, £10, £20, £50 for example. You have to really need the Euro’s though as the rate is often worse than the already crap rate they give when the exchange is open, it’s only commission free because they have already taken the commission in the rate… Occasionally it is better if the envelopes were made up when the rate was better.
